Mid Year Freak Out Book Tag

Hey friends! I am jumping on the book tag wagon for the Mid Year Freak Out! I originally wasn’t going to do this tag but I’ve been reading a lot of other peoples answers and while I was reading my own answers were popping into my head so I figured I should do this!!

I should have done this in June when it was actually half way through the year but you know what??? I am doing it in July and that is okay. We will all pretend that July is actually the mid way point for the year just for the purpose of this book tag today 😂

Also small reading update: July has been treating me well so far you guys!! I have been saying for the last couple months that my reading has been alright but just not as good as I have been hoping. Let me TELL YOU… I have already finished 2 books this month and have the 3rd about half way through! This is super exciting for me and is making me feel so motivated to keep reading and just super excited for all the books I still have to read!!! I love this feeling ❤

So anyways, lets jump on in to this book tag and let me know if we have any books in common!!

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

This is easy… I’ve used it for EVERY BOOK TAG THIS YEAR! – The Girl of Hawthorn and Glass by Adan Jerreat-Poole

51969167

Honestly this book was just disappointing because of the huge potential the book had to be amazing. It fell super short for me so its easily the biggest disappointment for me.

BIGGEST SURPRISE

Verity by Colleen Hoover

41957126. sy475

This was my first real thriller and also my first 5 star read of the year! I went into it thinking that I might not like it because I haven’t really been into thriller in the past BUT I was so surprised and I loved it!! I now have opened my eyes to so many thrillers and plan to read lots more!

Oh My God Wow GIF

FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR

BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

The Little Bookshop of Love Stories by Jaimie Admans

52101614. sy475

This book made me so happy I loved every second of it!! It was cute and fun and had a nice romance in it. Just overall a great chick-lit read set in a cute little bookstore run by a fun loving woman! Read it 😊

Happy Full House GIF

FAVOURITE BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATION

I don’t think I’ve watched a movie adaptation of a book since like maybe the hunger games??? I tend not to watch the movies haha

So instead Ill give you a book that I think would make a really good movie!!

Terraformer by Colleen Houck!

51767540. sx318

A sci-fi about a crew going to a different planet to colonize. Only, on the way there seems to be some mysterious deaths and weird things happening. The MC has a biological secret and when they get to the planet things seem to be working against them! People die, people are betrayed, secrets about the planet are discovered, and the MC discovers something about herself that changes everything! It was fab and would be a really entertaining movie!

WHAT BOOK DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR

All of them??? Hahaha I have so many books on my shelf to read! If I have to pick just one I would say The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren. I have been saying I will read it for like 3 months and I haven’t done it yet so I’m worried I will never get to it LOL

Ancient History Book Tag

If you have been following me for a little while on here or my IG you would know that I LOVE historical fiction. The reason for that love is mostly due to my huge interest in history in general. I love love love me some history.

I always thought this made me a nerd (and many people made sure to tell me this) but honestly history is so important and to me, I think it is so interesting and I just love learning.

My favourite time period/ places to learn about is definitely WW2 Europe and also Victorian England. I am open to other histories and I totally understand that Europe is only a sliver of worlds history but I am DRAWN to it. I cant help it!!

Drop some historical fiction book recs in the comments please ⬇⬇⬇

SO, ANYWAYS – Lets get on to another book tag I wasn’t tagged in (really shouldn’t be a surprise anymore 😂)

I saw this tag on Matfiction‘s blog! This book tag was originally created by Books Michelle. Go check out there answers to this tag 😊

Start GIF by memecandy

The Stone Age: one of the first books you remember reading

I can’t be certain which books I actually remember reading first lol but I know that I started reading Junie B Jones books and The Magic Treehouse books around the same time! Those really sparked my interest in reading when I was just little 😊

1167

Ancient Greece: your favorite myth-inspired book (doesn’t have to be Greek mythology), or retelling

A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Bidgid Kemmerer

So, I haven’t read this one but it is on my list of books to read and I remember when I first saw this one I was super excited about it because it was a retelling! I really don’t read that many books that are myth inspired or retellings but I want to get on that and read some!!

43204703. sy475

The Roman Empire: a book featuring an impressive empire or kingdom

The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna

So, I haven’t read this and I’m not sure if it has a kingdom or empire… BUT there is talk of an emperor and an army for girls so that intrigues me! This has been on my radar for a while!

40024121. sy475

The Middle Ages, (or the Dark Ages): a book that is an absolute bummer

The Girl of Hawthorn and Glass by Adan Jerreat-Poole

This book was a big ole MEH from me! I’ve used this book in like every book tag that asks for a book I didn’t like or a let down or whatever! This is a bummer let me tell you! I did not enjoy it very much. It had SO MUCH potential to be a really awesome story but for me, it didn’t work.

51969167

The Renaissance: a book that you’ve learned a lot from, or that made you think

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

This story was really sad and the ending actually killed me but it really made me think about the importance of friendship and not taking things for granted!

50093704. sy475

The Industrial Revolution: a book featuring an invention or concept that you would love to have in your own life

Terraformer by Colleen Houck

So, this is more of a concept that I think would be cool! The main character, Astra can communicate with plants (and also has some other abilities which I will not disclose haha). I think that is pretty cool! The story is actually really fun and I loved it so everyone should check it out 😊

51767540. sx318

World War I & II: your favorite historical fiction book about the World Wars (or if you don’t have one, your favorite historical fiction book in general)

The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles

This is a great read about the American Library in Paris, France! It follows a Jewish woman who has to flee because of the Nazi take over of Paris. She works at the American Library as a librarian. The book tells the story of how the people at the American Library saved a lot of the books from the Nazi’s who were going to destroy them. It is a powerful read!

44022382

Present day: a book everybody should read in present day according to you

I don’t know if I have a single book but I think that everyone should read some historical fiction! I like them because they give you a snap shot into an event that really happened but its made more entertaining because you follow a character instead of just random events!

I think that everyone should read these because they are a tool for learning and also they spark empathy and understanding for people who are different than you are! I think that historical fiction (and books in general) have played a huge role in my level of empathy!

A few historical fictions I enjoy are:

⭐ The Paris Library (mentioned above)

⭐ The Book of Lost Names

⭐ Home Front Girls

Summer Vibes Book Tag [An Original Tag]

Hey bookish peeps! I love doing book tags so much that I decided to make one myself. It is summer time and that is one of my most favorite times of the year so I figured what better to make the book tag about?? Summer is just a fab time full of adventures, sunshine, ice cream, and vacations (usually, not this year though). I hope you all enjoy summer as much as I do!!

Summer and reading goes together so well! When I was younger I used to participate in my local libraries summer reading challenge. I remember having to keep track of all the books I read on this sheet and then at the end of the summer submit it to the library. The best part was that depending on how many books you read, you received a cute little reading medal! I always thought that was such a fun time and was probably a big contributing factor to my love of reading as an adult!

So without further ado…. here is my Summer Vibes Book Tag ☀

Rules:

  • Mention the creator and link back to the original post! (Deanna @ The Comfy Reader)
  • Thank the blogger who tagged you
  • Answer all the prompts below however you see fit
  • Tag some friends!
  • Feel free to use the graphics
42201431

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren just give me instant summer feels. First off – look at that cover! If that doesn’t scream summer and tropical getaway, I’m not sure what does!

More than just the cover – this book is set in Hawaii which is the pinnacle of tropical vacations. So yeah, this is the perfect summer, tropical book in my opinion!

42185079. sy475

The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow comes to mind right away for me. This story has a focus on both books and music but the music aspect stands out more! It is about an alien who comes across “human music” and loves it. He then steals all the music and keeps it for himself. He then meets a real live human girl and they find a common interest, music.

41957126. sy475

Verity by Colleen Hoover!!! If you have not read this book yet, what are you waiting for?? This book is FULL of super juicy secrets. Even juicer than the juiciest watermelon. Can I possibly say juicy anymore? Seriously, if you’ve read this book you know what I mean! Fantastic thriller with so many twists and turns and DEEP DARK secrets!

9460487. sy475

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.

I don’t really know why this book of all books comes to mind when I think of a book set near water… but it does. It is set on an island which is obviously near the ocean! There are 2 separate parts in the book where the characters find themselves on boats as well. Its been so long since I’ve read this book but I remember the shipwreck and the fight at the end on the boat so clearly!

Middle Grade! I LOVE middle grade books and I feel like its still kind of a taboo thing for adults to enjoy. I’m seeing more and more people saying they like middle grade books which is fantastic but its still a guilty pleasure for me!

50093704. sy475

So I want to use the most cliche book EVER which is obviously The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but you guys it feel wrong to use SUCH an overused book LOL. So Instead I am going to use In Five Years by Rebecca Serle. This is not the most obvious choice but the underlying lesson in the book is to love your friends and make time for them. The ending is sad but it sure makes you realize how important an amazing friend is!

6186357

The Maze Runner series by James Dashner! This quite literally is just one large trip the characters go on to solve their trouble. Each book is set in a different place on their journey and there is so much adventure. I’m sure most of you have read these books (or at least seen the movies) so you know what I’m saying!

50670552. sy475

The Dark Continent by Scott Reardon. I feel like I use this book for most prompts about a book that was no good or boring or whatever! I just didn’t like this book very much and felt let down. It was also kinda long and I pushed through it making me feel like I wasted a lot of my time. So yeah, it is a regret!

52101614. sy475

The Little Bookshop of Love Stories by Jaimie Admans! SUCH A CUTE BOOK YOU GUYS! I loved this story of a super adorable woman who has the worst of luck who WINS a bookshop. The story then follows her running her very own bookshop and the romantic relationship that ensues! It is cute and sweet and a light happy read! Perfect for any book lover and fab for the summer time! Would make a good beach read.

43263520. sy475

The Grace Year by Kim Liggett

Kiersten (our MC’s arc enemy during the whole story) IS THE MOST FRUSTRATING CHARACTER. I just did not like her the entire story. She was constantly starting problems and was the most impossible person. Every time you think things are getting better for the Grace Year girls, Kiersten just wrecks everything. Anyone feel the same way about her??

Behind the Blogger Tag!

I love these types of book tags!! Its so amazing to get to know everyone and I love that people want to get to know me. This is such a fantastic community!!

The Rules

  • Thank the person who nominated you (dinipandareads) – I LOVE your blog and all your posts. You are so fabulous ❤
  • Answer all the questions down below
  • Pingback to the creator: Ellyn @ Allonsythornraxx
  • Nominate 5+ bloggers you’d like to know more about, to do this tag

WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING? & WHY HAVE YOU KEPT BLOGGING?

I started this blog after I had started my IG account @thecomfyreader. I figured that is what people do… make blogs 😂 I didnt have a ton of inspiration at the time so I mostly just did tags and memes and read a lot of what everyone else was posting until I found my own groove.

I really love blogging now. I think its a fun creative outlet and just a place to share some thoughts with like minded people! I am still learning and things change for me on the daily with what I want to do with my blog and the direction I want to go. So many ideas!! But I just love the community and overall being able to talk books with even a few people is fantastic!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF BLOG POST TO WRITE?

So, like I mentioned above – I started off with mainly book tags and memes. I still LOVE to do those!! They really are a fun thing to do. I also like to post reviews. I post all of my reviews on IG but sometimes its nice to go into more depth on the blog or just make it more fun and add some pictures and gifs 🤷‍♀️

I also really enjoying posting book hauls haha. I just think they are fun posts that show what I like to read. I’ve always loved reading others book hauls.

Something I haven’t done yet but have been wanting to do is book recommendations. I’m hoping to start doing some posts where I talk about some books and give some recommendations. I’ve seen others do this and I always like those posts!

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE FAVORITE BLOG POSTS YOU WROTE?

Hmmmm… that is a difficult question haha. I feel like my discussion posts tend to be my favouroites because I feel they are more personal and also tend to get more of a reaction from people. Here are my top 3:

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO TO RELAX?

I enjoy reading OBVS. I also like to watch TV and movies. I find that to be relaxing. I also like going for walks with the bf around the neighbourhood. Its nice to get outside and get some fresh air.

Most of all, I like to cuddle with my kitty, Luna. She is such a sweet little baby. If you follow my IG you would see Luna quite often. She is my little model and tends to sneak into some pictures 😂

WHAT ARE THREE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS?

I have so many favourite things!! This is a hard question, it is so VAGUE!! Here we go though haha 3 things….

  • Food – pasta, perogies, cheese, chocolate, tacos……
  • Summer time – swimming, hot tubs, sun tanning, beach, boating….
  • Travel – I don’t get to do this much because well it costs too much and I have a mortgage LOL but I love to travel when I can, even just locally

WHAT ARE YOUR PROUDEST BLOGGING MOMENTS?

My first proudest moment was when someone commented on my post LOL that was my first milestone because it proved that people out there were reading my posts!

My next proudest moment would be when I reached 100 followers. I know 100 is not very much haha but that is a solid starting point!! Its also not all about the followers by any means but I have to admit, it does feel good knowing there are that many people interested. I’m close to 200 now so it makes me happy ❤

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF BLOGGING?

I’ve never had too many hobbies…. I don’t know I find hobbies to be so time consuming 😂 I love to read so I do focus a lot of my free time on that. I enjoy baking but I don’t do it as often mostly because I’m trying to be healthier so cookies and cakes aren’t really something I want to be eating all the time hahaha.

I also have a side job coaching cheerleading to a bunch of little kids haha I have been involved in cheerleading for over 10 years either as an athlete or a coach. I love it. I suppose it is a hobby in a sense but I also get paid so I think of it more as a job I enjoy 🤷‍♀️

DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY IN THREE WORDS

Oh gosh…. I hate these ones LOL.

Friendly, thoughtful, and worried 😂 I am such a happy friendly person who really cares a lot about people BUT constantly worrying about something LOL

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE PET PEEVES?

This is EASY!

  • Slow walkers – Can’t stand it, please just speed up or move the heck out of my way
  • Talking over people – I hate when you’re having a conversation with someone and people just talk over you like you aren’t even there talking and being a part of the conversation????? Like does this happen to other people or am I actually invisible?
  • Not responding to texts – I KNOW YOU HAVE YOUR PHONE WITH YOU ALL DAY SO ANSWER THE DAMN TEXT MESSAGE. That is all.

WHAT’S SOMETHING YOUR FOLLOWERS DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I feel like probably a lot… I try to be open about my personal life but also I feel like I’m just talking to the void most the time when blogging so it also feels a little weird to open up to the void, you know? But here are a few things about me!

  • I am from British Columbia, Canada!
  • I recently purchased my first home (apartment) with my lovely bf
  • I have a cat, Luna and also a dog, Roxy – but my dog lives with my parents
  • I graduated college with a BA in Psychology and now currently have a job in social work. I love it and it feels good to help people BUT the more I spend time blogging and whatnot, I do dream to have a job in the book world in some capacity. Maybe one day!
  • I love Starbucks. Other coffee places are fine but Starbucks is the best to me
  • If I could only eat pasts for the rest of my life, that would be okay with me

I’M TAGGING:

Madeline @ The Bookish Mutant

Fizah @ Book Tales By Me

Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense

Beauty and the Beast Book Tag

Hello there everyone!!

Beauty and the Beast has been probably my favourite Disney movie ever. Belle is the best princess in my opinion. She is just so cool! She is idependent and smart, she reads, shes badass…. the list could go on forever, she is just my favourite!!

So when I saw this book tag I was like YUP I need to do this because it just feels so right.

Also – I LOVED the Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson. That is fabulous. Emma Watson is the QUEEN. She can do no wrong in my books.

I found this tag on World Unlike Our Own‘s blog. This tag was created by Kristy @ Kristy and the Cat Read.

Tale as Old as Time: A Popular Theme, Trope, or Setting You Will Never Get Bored of Reading

I have a few!

I love reading anything to do with books. So like, set in a library or bookshop. Or something to do with books.

I also love the friends to lovers trope in romance/chick-lit books!

Belle: A Book You Bought for Its Beautiful Cover That’s Just as Beautiful on the Inside Too

The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow

This is such a beautiful cover!! I was in love the second I saw it. Turns out the book was amazing as well!!

42185079. sy475

Gaston: A Book Everyone Loves That You Don’t

So, I don’t think that EVERYONE loves this one but it is popular and I just didn’t totally love it…… Wilder Girls by Rory Power.

This book was okay for me but didn’t live up to the hype.

Lefou: A Loyal Sidekick You Can’t Help But Love More Than Their Counterpart

Jamie from the Charlotte Holmes series!!

He is such a cute character and is SO loyal its honestly just dumb at some point haha. Charlotte is a great character but she can be a little too much at times and Jamie really just was the best “side kick”

Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumiere, and Cogsworth: A Book That Helped You Through a Difficult Time or Taught You Something Valuable

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

This book made me open my eyes and really look at the relationships I have in the life. It made me reconsider what I was focusing on as important events and important people. This book was beautiful and heartbreaking. If nothing else it taught me to appreciate your true friends and to not waste peoples time if you do not share the same feelings as they do!! (Which seems obvious but sometimes you need that reminder)

I think that Mrs. Potts would approve of this 😂

Something There: A Book or Series You Weren’t Into at First
But Picked Up Towards the End

The Leveller by Julia Durango

I actually just read this one and it started off slow and I was a little unsure based on the style of writing but then I really enjoyed it!

Be Our Guest: A Fictional Character You’d Love to Have Over for Dinner

Hmmm.. this is tough because thre are SO MANY great characters that would be super fun to have for dinner. So as per usual I will just give multiple answers LOL

Based on pure attractiveness – Four from Divergent 🔥

Based on interest – Stevie from Truly Devious 🔎

Based on love for books – Odile from The Paris Library 📚

Do you love Beauty and the Beast? If not, what is your fav Disney movie?

What Cats Do Book Tag

Hey everyone!

I’m back with another book tag! I feel like its actually been awhile since I’ve done a book tag and that makes me sad because I love them! When I saw this one I knew I had to do it because I just love cats so much. I found this tag at Smellfoy Can Read‘ s blog 😊

PURR – As cats do this when they’re happy or relaxed, what is the book that makes you happiest or relaxed?

Im not sure I have a book that makes me “happy or relaxed” in the sense that I would go back and reread a book to feel happy or relaxed. Many books have made me feel happy though. Ill list a few:

  • The Lantern’s Ember by Colleen Houck
  • A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro (the whole series really)
  • Josh and Hazels Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren
  • Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane

SLEEP – What is a book that put you to sleep or was just boring?

Again, I have a few of these hahaha. I will list the 2 most recent books that just were not interesting to me and made me feel super bored!

  • The Girl of Hawthorn and Glass by Adan Jerreat-Poole
  • The Witch of Little Italy by Suzanne Palmieri

TWITCH WHILE DREAMING – Have you ever dreamt of a book you read?

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever dreamed about a book? However, I will say that I had some scary dreams after reading The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware!

SEEMS TO PLAY NICE UNTIL THE CLAWS ARE OUT – Which book had the biggest plot twist(s)?

So many books have so many amazing plot twists! The one that sticks out to me for this one is Verity by Colleen Hoover! Crazy plot twist in this one.

CUDDLES – Which book character would you give a hug to?

The most recent character I would give a hug to would be Eva from ‘The Book of Lost Names’ because her story was so sad and I just feel like that girl deserves a big hug.

CAT BREEDS – What are your favorite books?

This is tough!! I feel like I have a book or two that I will always say are my “favs” but honestly I have new favourites all the time. This is going to be a list again!!

  • Divergent by Veronica Roth (my first fav book ever)
  • A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro (the whole series is fab!!)
  • Terraformer by Colleen Houck ( a recent fav)
  • The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles (not released yet but you must read it when it comes out next year!)
  • Josh and Hazels Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren (SO CUTE)

GETTING THE CAT – How did you find your favorite book(s)?

Most of them I came across either on Netgalley or online here on the blog or IG. Divergent I came across in the bookstore when it first came out and was plastered everywhere haha it was hard to miss.

Usually I come across books from other bloggers or just on Goodreads when I’m searching for new things to read! (or sometimes something catches my eye at the bookstore when I am browsing)

THE VET’S OFFICE – Your least favorite book:

Ive had a few books I wasnt a fan of. The ones I mentioned above that put me to sleep… yeah those are on that list! I will add a couple others that I just didnt like. I dont think I have just 1 that is my least fav… just a general list of books I wasnt a fan of.

  • Boy Robot by Simon Curtis
  • The Dark Continent by Scott Reardon
  • The Grave Keepers by Elizabeth Byrn (this one wasn’t too bad, just let me down a little)

BEING IN PLACES THEY SHOULDN’T – Least favorite cliché:

Probably in romance stories when the guy is really rude and mean but then “changes” and falls in love with the girl he was actually really horrible to 🤷‍♀️

THE GOOD OLD CARDBOARD BOX – Most underrated book series?

Let me go back to one of my fav series…… The Charlotte Holmes series by Brittany Cavallaro!

Also another one I think worth mentioning is The Agency series by Y.S. Lee!

Maybe another one to add as well…. The Asylum series by Madeline Roux (not sure if it is underrated or if I was just late to the party)

Hope you all enjoyed my cat themed book tag today! Join in if you’d like! Thanks for stopping by 😊

I have been reading 2 books at a time! Usually 1 is an ebook that I read on my kobo and one is a physical book!

Recently though I have started reading a 3rd book on my phone when I am waiting somewhere or have random down time! So far, so good!

How do you decide when to switch between multiple reads?

I usually alternate between the books day to day. So, one day Ill focus on the ebook and the next Ill focus on the physical books. I will switch back and forth until they are done. Sometimes if I’m super into the book though Ill read that one and put the other to the side for a couple days!

Do you ever switch bookmarks partway through a book?

No hahahah I have never done this?? Do people do this??

Where do you keep the book(s) you’re currently reading?

Just all over the place 😂

On the couch, the windowsill, the computer desk, the kitchen table, the bed, in my nightstand, on the floor…. really they just get put down anywhere and left there until I pick them up again!!

What time of day do you read the most?

Mostly night time! Since I’m at work all day I don’t have time during the day to read very much. If I have the day off or on the weekend I will read during the day though!

How long do you typically read in one session?

Probably like an hour to 2 hours!

Do you read hardbacks with the dust jacket off?

Noooo, I like never ever take the dust jacket off!

What position do you mainly use to read?

I like to curl up on the couch in my comfy little corner spot with blankets and cozy pillows!

Do you take your current read with you everywhere you go?

Very rarely! Only recently have I started to read on my phone so, I guess I technically take my current read with me! But I never take the physical book with me. Too much to carry and normally I don’t have time on my outing to read!

How often do you update your Goodreads reading progress?

I try to update it everyday but sometimes I forget!

What book(s) are you currently reading?

I am currently erading 3 books:

  • Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating (on my phone)
  • The Dark Continent (on my Kobo)
  • Truly Devious (physical book)

I tag you!! Anyone can join in on this one 🙂 I’d love to see your answers!!

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don’t live to see the morning? – Goodreads

This is such an over used book I’m sure but honestly it is SO iconic and one of the first major female leads that made a huge impact! I read these books when I was in high school and absolutely loved them. When the movies came out I knew I needed to see them and I thoroughly enjoyed them and found them to be quite empowering and moving.

LOVE THIS BOOK! Charlotte is such an interesting character to me. She is the descendant from the great Sherlock Holmes ad solves all sorts of mysteries. She is so smart and sneaky! If you enjoy Sherlock mysteries then this would be for you! Its a series as well!

The Witch of Little Italy by Suzanne Palmieri

When young Eleanor Amore finds herself pregnant, she returns home to her estranged family in the Bronx, called by “The Sight” they share now growing strong within her. – Goodreads

I personally did not end up enjoying this book very much for several reasons. I wrote a review about this book and gave it 2/5 stars. However, the writing in this book was so beautiful and artistic. I referred to it as being like a song, so smooth and well put together. Really wonderful writing. Worth checking out even though I wasn’t a huge fan!

Sixteen-year-old Deka lives in fear and anticipation of the blood ceremony that will determine whether she will become a member of her village. Already different from everyone else because of her unnatural intuition, Deka prays for red blood so she can finally feel like she belongs. – Goodreads

I am waiting for this book to come out and just cannot wait to get my hand on it!! First off, this seems like an amazing book that will have such a strong female character. Second, I need to read more fantasy books I just don’t read them enough! Lastly, I love a book with a emperor and war and immortality… so fun!

This was a great book that was on my reading list for a very long time. I just kept putting it off when something new came out and really I am so disappointed I waited so long. It was lovely. Full of mystery, love, heartbreak, despair, and so many twists I didn’t see coming. This is a book I would re-read and I have NEVER re-read a book.

The Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley

I have not read this one but I have heard good things. It is a historical fiction about living in the 1950’s in Virginia and dealing with segregation and hardship due to sexuality. Two female characters are on opposite sides of the movements but start to fall for each other!

Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

With incredible empathy, intelligence, and candor, Jodi Picoult tackles race, privilege, prejudice, justice, and compassion—and doesn’t offer easy answers. Small Great Things is a remarkable achievement from a writer at the top of her game.Goodreads

I have had this book on my TBR for a long time now. Always thinking I’ll read it next month or I’ll get to it soon. I find I am so interested in reading it and have heard such amazing things but to be honest it touches on some really difficult topics and I never feel like I’m ready for it. Maybe some time soon.
