Recent Reads | Royals, Second Chances, and Other Thoughts

Hey everyone! I hope you are all well and have been doing some fabulous reading lately!! I have been somewhat struggling with my reading but I’m hoping that July will bring more motivation for me!

If you saw my monthly wrap up for June you would know I did okay with my reading. Not amazing, but honestly pretty average for me! How many books do you read in a month?

So like last time, I am going to do a little update about what I’ve been reading lately. Lets start with what I have recently finished!

I just finished The Heir Affair a couple days ago!

Waving London GIF by PLAYMOBIL

I absolutely loved this book. I will post a review for it soon but for now let me just tell you that this book did not disappoint! The drama was wild and just as good as the first book (The Royal We)! I received this book for a Goodreads giveaway!

I hadn’t read The Royal We before and then when I realized The Heir Affair was actually the 2nd book I was like oops better read the first one LOL. I quickly bought The Royal We on my Kobo and read it within I think 2 days. I was amazed how long The Royal We was… like it was a BIG ONE YOU GUYS!! Anyways, it was so fab that I plowed through out regardless of size. I pretty much immediately picked up The Heir Affair (also quite large) and read that one within the week.

I think these 2 books were really interesting in the sense that you get a snap shot into what it might be like being royal with today’s media! A lot of the drama is media drama and just how people make up these headlines about them or twist the truths. Also how the public can be SO MEAN and rip these people apart when they don’t even know them?!?!? I know this is a fictional book but it does make you think what it must really be like!

If you like the royals, specifically Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, then you will love these 2 books! I don’t know if they will write another one but I hope they do lol.

I also recently finished The Second Chance Hotel by Rachel Dove

Again, I will have a review for this one soon but just a little overview of it… a woman divorces her husband and decides to get a fresh start. She packs everything she owns into her car and drives off to a hotel she used to visit as a child. Little plot twist here… she actually BUYS the hotel and spruces it up to get it up and running again. She of course makes new friends and meets a guy… wonder what happens there?? Lol.

This was a predicable story but cute! It was also short so definitely a good one if you want a fast read that will make you smile!

Start Over Season 1 GIF by The Rook

My current reads… this is a little up in the air right now lol. I have started a Netgalley book – Bookish and the Beast.

When I say I’ve started it I mean I’ve read about 3 pages lol. It has been sitting on my list for a bit and I know I need to read it AND I am excited to read it but just feeling a little uninterested in reading at the moment. I’m sure once I read a couple chapters I will be hooked… I mean who doesn’t like a fairy-tale retelling??

beauty and the beast books GIF by Disney

I usually read 2 books at once but I honestly don’t know what book I will pick to read alongside!! So right now I will give you the couple options I’m trying to decide between:

  • The Unhoneymooners
  • The Guest List
  • Darling Rose Gold

Struggling to pick one…. maybe someone can help me decide?? What should I read?

Well that is all for today everyone! Hope you enjoyed my little reading update and my thoughts!!

What are you reading right now? Do you plan a monthly tbr or just go with the flow?

Asking Bookstagram: Listening to Audio Books

Hello everyone 😊

For this month’s ‘asking bookstagram’ post I had SO MANY responses from all of my fabulous IG followers! I am just loving this monthly feature on my blog. It is such a fun time learning what people think about different topics!

This month the bookish question I asked everyone was……

Do you count listening to audio books as reading?

So I have never listened to an audio book before so I don’t really have much of an opinion on this. A part of me wants to say no, its not reading because you are not physically reading it with you eyes… BUT audio books are still books technically so really I suppose it can count as reading.

I know this is a controversial topic and I feel like people are either a hard yes or a hard no and not really in between 😂 I am on the fence only because I’ve never listened to one before.. but perhaps I need to give it a go!

Responses from my wonderful friends:

@_bookishparadise_

I think audiobooks should definitely count as reading, you’re getting through a book and your spending the time to listen to it.

@hailsbooknook

I count them! Books are books, you’re still putting all this time in listening to the book 😊

@thelittlethingsandmore

Yessss!!! I never used to think so and then I realized some people can only do audio so definitely counts 🙌🏻

@books_to_be_read

I don’t always listen to them but if I’m going on a long drive I will find one I like! I would absolutely count them, you are still taking the time to listen and absorb it. In my opinion they are still books 😊

@abundantlybookish

I count them but not towards my reading goal. They are surplus books that I review but wouldn’t add to my goodreads (at least not with a date).

@mcs_bookshelf

I haven’t gone the audio route yet either… but interested as its a great way to pass time while driving. I don’t consider it reading though. Its listening. If you watch a movie adaption of a book would you say: oh I read that book on film? Doubt it 😏 Either way, great entertainment and escape!

@novels.and.tea

I used to not count audiobooks but for a lot of people (visual impairments or learning/reading disabilities for example) audiobooks are the way they usually read books! This changed my perspective and now I count audiobooks the same way 😊

@shes.booked

Absorbing words-however you may do that- is reading!!

@readingonsundays

I count them… but I only listen to non-fiction. Things that are more factual ad boring to read but interesting to listen to

@thereadergram

I don’t listen to audiobooks either. I lean more towards the side of it not counting but I cant really judge since I don’t do it myself.

8 Mystery Books I Want To Read

I am a huge mood and seasonal reader! Anyone else out there like me?

Big Mood | Know Your Meme

I love to match the types of books I read to the type of weather that is outside haha I don’t know if this is common or if I am just crazy…. but for me, the weather influences a lot! I tend to read happy, romantic, light books during the summer. I love to read thrillers and mysteries in the fall. During the spring I read more intense fantasy and sci-fi books. Winter I like to read holiday themed stories and cute romantic books. Obviously, I am up to read anything but those are what I seem to go to during those times!!

So, I am already thinking ahead to September and into fall because time is FLYING BY ME and I figured I should maybe think about what Ill be looking forward to reading! I already have a long list of books for the summer and I’m trying to catch up with my Netgalley books so for the most part my summer is planned!

I thought if anyone else is like me and goes for more mysterious, spooky, and thrilling stories in the fall, you may like this list and maybe even add some to your fall reading list this year 😊

First on my list is Mydworth Mysteries by Neil Richards and Matthew Costello. So this is a series of mystery books and they just look fabulous! These mysteries push together 2 of my favourite genres (historical fiction and mystery) so really this is a must read for me! The first book is called ‘A Shot in the Dark’ and takes place in 1929 England… NOTHING BETTER THAN THAT TIME!

46204824. sy475

Synopsis: Sussex, England, 1929. Mydworth is a sleepy English market town just 50 miles from London. But things are about to liven up there, when young and handsome Sir Harry Mortimer returns home from his diplomatic posting in Cairo, with his beautiful and unconventional American wife, Kat. No sooner have the two arrived, when a jewel robbery occurs at Harry’s aunt’s home – Mydworth Manor. The police are baffled and overwhelmed with the case. But Harry and Kat have an edge in the hunt for the dangerous culprit: not only do they have certain useful “skills” they’ve both picked up in service of King, President and Country, they also have access to parts of English society that your average bobby can’t reach …

Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson!!! I’m a little late to the game with this one but it has been on my TBR for so long! Since. It. Was. Released. What is wrong with me you might ask? I wish I knew. I need this book in my life you guys. So many people have loved it and the reviews are great!

40916679. sy475

Synopsis: The case is closed. Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it.

But having grown up in the same small town that was consumed by the murder, Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn’t so sure. When she chooses the case as the topic for her final year project, she starts to uncover secrets that someone in town desperately wants to stay hidden. And if the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth?

Felicity Carrol Mysteries by Patricia Marcantonio – so there are currently 2 books and I’m hoping there will be more because they seem fantastic! Not only are the covers very pretty and intriguing, but the stories are again twisted with historical fiction!! Te first book is called ‘Felicity Carrol and the Perilous Pursuit’ which just sounds so fun!

43808188. sy475

Synopsis: Felicity Carrol is interested in everything—except being a proper young matron of Victorian society. Brilliant and resourceful, Felicity took refuge in science and education after her mother died and her father abandoned her to servants. Now, all he wants is for her to marry into a family of status and money.

Felicity has other ambitions—but her plans shudder to a halt when her mentor is murdered at the British Museum and his priceless manuscript of King Arthur lore is stolen. Tapping into her photographic memory and the latest in the burgeoning field of forensic detection, Felicity launches an investigation. Handsome Scotland Yard Inspector Jackson Davies is also on the case, and finds Felicity as meddlesome as she is intelligent. But when more nobles are murdered and their King Arthur relics stolen, Felicity must journey on her own into the dark underworld of antiquity theft, where she uncovers a motive far more nefarious than simple profit. As the killer sets his sights on a new victim—a charismatic duke who has captured Felicity’s imagination—the stakes rise to impossible heights.

Countess of Harleigh Mystery series by Dianne Freeman. Okay so maybe it’s clear there is a theme to the types of mysteries I feel like reading right now lol. This is ANOTHER mystery with historical fiction. I am so drawn to these!!

36630895

Synopsis: Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. After an obligatory year spent mourning her philandering husband, Reggie, she puts aside her drab black gowns, leaving the countryside and her money-grubbing in-laws behind. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York—for her first London season.

No sooner has Frances begun her new life than the ghosts of her old one make an unwelcome appearance. The Metropolitan police receive an anonymous letter implicating Frances in her husband’s death. Frances assures Inspector Delaney of her innocence, but she’s also keen to keep him from learning the scandalous circumstances of Reggie’s demise. As fate would have it, her dashing new neighbor, George Hazelton, is one of only two other people aware of the full story.

While busy with social engagements on Lily’s behalf, and worrying if Reggie really was murdered, Frances learns of mysterious burglaries plaguing London’s elite. The investigation brings death to her doorstep, and Frances rallies her wits, a circle of gossips, and the ever-chivalrous Mr. Hazelton to uncover the truth. A killer is in their midst, perhaps even among her sister’s suitors. And Frances must unmask the villain before Lily’s season—and their lives—come to a most unseemly end . . .

One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus. Sooooooooo, again, I’m really late to this one and need to read this one AND the second one! So much reading to do!! When I heard this is like Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars I was like YUP say no more I need that!

32571395. sy475

Synopsis: Pay close attention and you might solve this.

On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
AndSimon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon’s dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

The June Boys by Courtney C. Stevens! I just came across this one when I was watching a booktuber (cannot remember who because all I do now is watch all these booktubers lol). I love me a good mystery where everyone ends up being involved!! So juicy!

52357797. sx318 sy475

Synopsis: The Gemini Thief could be anyone. Your father, your mother, your best friend’s crazy uncle. Some country music star’s deranged sister. Anyone.

The Gemini Thief is a serial kidnapper, who takes three boys and holds them captive from June 1st to June 30th of the following year. The June Boys endure thirteen months of being stolen, hidden, observed, and fed before they are released, unharmed, by their masked captor. The Thief is a pro, having eluded authorities for nearly a decade and taken at least twelve boys.

Now Thea Delacroix has reason to believe the Gemini Thief took a thirteenth victim: her cousin, Aulus McClaghen.

But the game changes when one of the kidnapped boys turns up dead. Together with her boyfriend Nick and her best friends, Thea is determined to find the Gemini Thief and the remaining boys before it’s too late. Only she’s beginning to wonder something sinister, something repulsive, something unbelievable, and yet, not impossible:

What if her father is the Gemini Thief?

This is a Bookstagram made me do it pick!! The Guest List by Lucy Foley is HIGH on my list of mysteries I need in my life. I have seen this book everywhere and it wasn’t really on my list at first but then I just decided I needed to jump on the bandwagon and now here we are!

51933429

Synopsis: The bride ‧ The plus one ‧ The best man ‧ The wedding planner ‧ The bridesmaid ‧ The body

On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human. As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes. The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast.

And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?

Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson. TALK ABOUT A GOOD MYSTERY! This has everything you need. I love a good amateur sleuth type mystery and I love when the main character is a suspect of the mystery! Always SO interesting!

52225186. sx318 sy475

Synopsis: Years ago, bookseller and mystery aficionado Malcolm Kershaw compiled a list of the genre’s most unsolvable murders, those that are almost impossible to crack—which he titled “Eight Perfect Murders”—chosen from among the best of the best including Agatha Christie’s A. B. C. Murders, Patricia Highsmith’s Strangers on a Train, Ira Levin’s Death Trap, A. A. Milne’s Red House Mystery, Anthony Berkeley Cox’s Malice Aforethought, James M. Cain’s Double Indemnity, John D. Macdonald’s The Drowner, and Donna Tartt’s A Secret History.

But no one is more surprised than Mal, now the owner of the Old Devils Bookshop in Boston, when an FBI agent comes knocking on his door one snowy day in February. She’s looking for information about a series of unsolved murders that look eerily similar to the killings on Mal’s old list. And the FBI agent isn’t the only one interested in this bookseller who spends almost every night at home reading. The killer is out there, watching his every move—a diabolical threat who knows way too much about Mal’s personal history, especially the secrets he’s never told anyone, even his recently deceased wife.

To protect himself, Mal begins looking into possible suspects—and sees a killer in everyone around him. But Mal doesn’t count on the investigation leaving a trail of death in its wake. Suddenly, a series of shocking twists leaves more victims dead—and the noose around Mal’s neck grows so tight he might never escape.

Josh and Hazels Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

40189670

I thought this book was SO funny and the beginning had me laughing and cringing and feeling so many things so quickly! I was hooked at the beginning of the book and all the way through! Hazel is such a lovable character and her insane personality shines right from the start!

For some reason whenever I think of a holiday book I always go to Christmas… but to be honest I don’t have any Christmas book rec’s that I have actually read myself. So instead I’m doing to do a Halloween book!

The Lantern’s Ember by Colleen Houck!

36546857. sy475

This would be the perfect Halloween read. It is a little spooky, deals with magic, has a crazy unbelievable world, AND the main character is a witch. So yeah, defs a good Halloween read!

Terraformer by Colleen Houck

2 Colleen Houck books back to back??? What!!

51767540. sx318

Astra is the main character in this story and I just loved her. I felt so nervous for her throughout the story because she was in SUCH a compromising situation and also her health was not good so I worried about her in that sense too! The ending is fabulous and I felt so much better about her and her situation!

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

42201431

This book LOOKS super summery and just a must read for summer time! Not only is it a lighter, cuter read – it also takes place in Hawaii which to me, seems like the land of summer time!

funfetti cake.png

I mean other than the obvious answer of a children’s book or something… I would say the Twilight series as a whole. I read this series when I was much younger and it feels honestly like a life time ago! It really takes me back when I think about those books.

Sooooooo, I’ve only actually read 1 classic (Pride and Prejudice) and I didn’t really like it, However, I am currently reading Treasure Island and that is shaping out to be pretty good. So, Ill go with that, Treasure Island

I will say this book/ series EVERY TIME! The Charlotte Holmes series is fantastic! Everyone should read it. I loved all the books, it is just so under rated! I don’t see it pop up too much but when I do I GET SO EXCITED! I love sharing this one with the world! Go read it.

The Little Bookshop of Love Stories by Jaimie Admans

52101614. sy475

This is such a cute book! Its a total chick-lit style book that focuses on the main character who wins a bookshop and basically follows her new life and a new love interest! Such a fun, fluffy read!

carrot.png

The House on the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

45047384. sy475

This book was so interesting!! I loved it and the message it has is powerful. Its mostly about advocating for people and sticking up for what is right. Also a little bit of not judging people before knowing them and protecting children! Its a great read with some social work themes! (Also, there’s magic in this book!!)

macarons.png

The Institute by Stephen King

43798285

I say this book because first off, it was my first King read.. and second, the book is quite big and I was worried it would take me forever to read!

It was fantastic and I was intimidated for no reason! It was not scary like I thought it would be and I flew through it because it was a great story!

eggtarts.png

The Girl of Hawthorn and Glass by Adan Jerreat-Poole

51969167

I will start off by saying I did not really enjoy this book because it was so slow BUT it had very diverse characters which was awesome!

There was at least 2 trans characters, a gay character, and a non-binary relationship!

banana.png

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

51901147. sx318 sy475

Obviously this is a big book with lots of hype right now! Hunger Games was such a well known, amazing book series so it is not surprising that the newest installment is very popular!!

Thats it everyone!

Book Review: The Leveller by Julia Durango

17852690

Title: The Leveller

Author: Julia Durango

Publisher: HarperCollins

Genre: YA, Sci-fi

Format: Physical copy

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Buy it here!

SYNOPSIS:

Nixy Bauer is a self-made Leveller. Her job? Dragging kids out of virtual reality and back to their parents in the real world. It’s normally easy cash, but Nixy’s latest mission is fraught with real danger, intrigue, and romance.

Nixy Bauer is used to her classmates being very, very unhappy to see her. After all, she’s a bounty hunter in a virtual reality gaming world. Kids in the MEEP, as they call it, play entirely with their minds, while their bodies languish in a sleeplike state on the couch. Irritated parents, looking to wrench their kids back to reality, hire Nixy to jump into the game and retrieve them.

But when the game’s billionaire developer loses track of his own son in the MEEP, Nixy is in for the biggest challenge of her bounty-hunting career. Wyn Salvador isn’t some lazy kid looking to escape his homework: Wyn does not want to be found. And he’s left behind a suicide note. Nixy takes the job but quickly discovers that Wyn’s not hiding—he’s being held inside the game against his will. But who is holding him captive, and why?

Nixy and Wyn attempt to fight their way out of a mind game unlike any they’ve encountered, and the battle brings them closer than either could have imagined. But when the whole world is virtual, how can Nixy possibly know if her feelings are real?

MY REVIEW:

I really enjoyed The Leveller! It was one of those books that start out and you are like “oooooo why did I want to read this??” But then it turns around and is super enjoyable!

I have to say the writing is a little young? Like its not a middle grade or anything but at times it felt a little immature. But like I said, I still really enjoyed this one!

Here are 5 reasons you should read this book:
🎮 Its based in a video game virtual world and its fast paced and exciting

💁‍♀️ The main character (Nixy) is so smart and witty, and pretty badass – she is basically a virtual reality bounty hunter

🔪 There is a major betrayal and a couple good plot twists

✨ Fun, light, with a little romance, quite a bit of action, and a lot of imagination

📚 This is a decently short book so definitely could be read in one go! If you like virtual reality and YA books then I’m sure you would enjoy this one!

Recent Reads | Veronica Roth, Hunger Games, and Other Thoughts

Hello friends, hope you all had a great weekend and were able to read lots and just relax! The state of the world is honestly unbelievable and I feel so deeply for everyone right now.

In other bookish news – I have been getting a decent amount of reading done and I’m feeling happy about that! So I wanted to start doing a recent reads blog post every couple weeks just to give an update on what I’m reading and my thoughts. I love doing WWW Wednesday but I want to get a little deeper into the recent reads than just list them! So, I’m going to give this a go and see how it goes!! Let me know if this is an idea you like? I see others doing weekly reading wrap ups and whatnot but I don’t think I read fast enough to do it weekly. We will see though!!

So, first off, I have recently finished Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth.

I LOVED Veronica Roth ever since Divergent.. I feel like that is like everyone else 😂 I’m definitely not a unique opinion when it comes to that LOL but I loved her writing style and loved the story. Since then I know she has come out with other books like Carve the Mark and the sequal to Carve the Mark (cannot remember the name right now). BUT for some reason I didn’t pick those ones up? Like what the heck Deanna? Anyways, they are on my long long list of books I should read one day. Will I get to them? That is a the age old mystery that I do not know the answer to!! All I can say is, I like Veronica Roth and I hope to get to those books sometime soon.

So, to Chosen Ones! I have a full review to post so Ill just go into it a little bit here. The book follows 5 characters called the “chosen ones” who are picked based on a prophecy that states the “dark one” will destroy the world. They go through this whole war with the dark one and you find out the dark one was DEFEATED. Now, that is NOT a spoiler (it is in the synopsis). The book then starts in the present and the reader finds out about the dark one and the war through flashbacks and other means of the characters going into the past! The characters are then taken on a new adventure when a new “dark one” (actually the same dark one) comes around and they have to save the world AGAIN. Obviously!

This book is entertaining. There is some magic, action, YA romance, zombies even make an appearance! There is also some sci-fi aspects to the story that I really enjoyed! Overall, it was a good read.

I am reading two books right now – Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson & The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins.

Treasure Island is my 2nd ever classic. The only other classic I have read was Pride and Prejudice in college and to be honest…. I did not like it. Don’t @ me 😂 I know, its an unpopular opinion BUT I just did not enjoy the book and I felt forced to read it which made it so much worse.

However, I’m feeling different about Treasure Island. Its a little hard to read I wont lie. The English is very old!! Like the book was published in the 1800’s and that is what the English is like. SO I’m having a hard time with that a bit. The story itself though is entertaining. I like the adventure and the pirates! I’m at the part where they get to the island and some of the crew gets off the ship and some stays! Some murder ensues on the island and now I’m feeling SUPER sketchy about some of the characters!

So that is that! Will update you more when I get further in the book 😊

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is so far so good! I’m about 100 pages in and I’m happy with the story. I never liked President Snow in the other Hunger Games books but I’m liking this take on his character. Basically if you don’t already know – this book is a prequel to the Hunger Games series. It follows President Snow, before he is President, when he is still a kid and the Hunger Games are only 10 years in. He is a mentor to a tribute and basically it goes from there!

I wont lie to you.. I didn’t want to read this book when I first heard about it. It was all over the internet, people were freaking out, fan girling all over again for this book franchise! I LOVED the Hunger Games and also the movies when they came out. I was all for Gale and didn’t want Katniss and Peeta to be together, I was THAT girl 😂 but, I felt that I left the Hunger Games in the past. I read the stories when I was in high school and while I loved them and they were a turning point for my reading life, I just didn’t want to bring it back. If that makes sense. Anyone else feel that way?

HOWEVER, I will say that the more I saw it on IG, the more I needed to be on that hype train with everyone else. Then, on this past weekend, my parents stopped by my house and what did they bring you may ask??? THEY BROUGHT THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES. This is where my journey on the hype train began! Thanks mom and dad!

The story is fab so far. Loving it! The book is large and so I feel it will take me some time to get through but you know what? I’m cool with it. Ill ride this train for a while and when I have more solid thoughts and feelings about this (because like I said, I’m only about 100 pages in) I will let you all know!

My last reading update is what I am hoping to read next but am unsure about.

I will for sure be picking up a Netgalley title because as you guys know I have about 10 books waiting for me on there LOL. I’m thinking I will pick up The Second Chance Hotel by Rachel Dove. It looks so cute and I just want to read some more fluffy books after I finish my current reads (or even during… maybe Ill try to read 3 books at once?) 🤷‍♀️

I also bought the whole series of Harry Potter books and LET ME TELL YOU I’m excited!! I wanted to start them the second they showed up at my house but I didn’t because I just cant drop a book I’m reading half way through, it feels WRONG. I am hoping to get to Harry Potter and the whole wizarding world soon but I also am torn because a part of me feels that Harry Potter should be read in the Fall/Winter. What do you guys think??

Well that’s all for today folks! That was more in depth than my WWW Wednesday and it was more fun to get some thoughts out about what I’m reading instead of just telling you all the titles with no real updates.

Let me know what you think of this post in the comments below. Do you like it? Is it too long? Do you simply not care about what I’m reading? I need to know so please tell all 😊

If you are like me, you have a huge spot in your heart for Robert Munsch. I spent SO much of my childhood reading his books. They are actual masterpieces and I actually came across my little collection of his books not long ago while cleaning mt house.

I sat down and I read of them (The Paper Bag Princess to be exact) and YOU GUYS I loved it like I was a child again. I don’t know what it is about his books but they honestly appeal to everyone at any age. Little Deanna as a child loved the humor in the books and the funny pictures and just found comfort in them. Older Deanna as an adult sees just HOW funny some of the books are and the hilarious situations that parents honestly deal with and I see them as an outlet for teaching and learning.

So, I wanted to share a few of my TOP favs because lets be real…. I love them all. So I’m narrowing it down to just a few (maybe?? so sorry)!

Stephanie’s Ponytail

285740

Honestly hilarious. A little kid who just wants to be different in her class so she decides to wear a ponytail but everyone copies her. She keeps trying to be different by changing her hair and it just becomes so outrageous 😂

Alligator Baby

285756

Basically this is about parents who are just a mess and bring an alligator home from the hospital instead of their baby and everything that would come from that LOL

Mortimer

285788. sx318

Just a little boy who keeps his family up all night with his singing! The story is extra funny because it shows the parents frustrations increasingly getting worse throughout the book!

Something Good

285775

This one just depicted my childhood and going to the store with my parents hahaha. The child puts every sugary bad for you treat into the cart during the whole shopping trip. Dad says no over and over to the point where he just told the child “stand here and don’t move” lol I feel that.

Mud Puddle

285761

If I remember this one correctly – this is about a girl who loves to get outside and dirty in the mud. Then a mud puddle starts to follow her and she works on trying to defeat the mean mud puddle lol

FINALLY MY ALL TIME FAV ROBERT MUNSCH BOOK……

The Paper Bag Princess

240130

This one is so funny but also a really good story for children to learn from. Princess Elizabeth is supposed to marry Prince Ronald but that is ruined when a dragon kidnaps the Prince and destroys the castle and everything in it. Elizabeth is left wearing only a paper bag. Elizabeth then goes on an adventure to save the prince but when she does he is not happy with her appearance. Elizabeth doesn’t take that type of attitude from Roland. Elizabeth is awesome.

  • Answer all the questions down below
  • Pingback to the creator: Ellyn @ Allonsythornraxx
  • Nominate 5+ bloggers you’d like to know more about, to do this tag

WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING? & WHY HAVE YOU KEPT BLOGGING?

I started this blog after I had started my IG account @thecomfyreader. I figured that is what people do… make blogs 😂 I didnt have a ton of inspiration at the time so I mostly just did tags and memes and read a lot of what everyone else was posting until I found my own groove.

I really love blogging now. I think its a fun creative outlet and just a place to share some thoughts with like minded people! I am still learning and things change for me on the daily with what I want to do with my blog and the direction I want to go. So many ideas!! But I just love the community and overall being able to talk books with even a few people is fantastic!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF BLOG POST TO WRITE?

So, like I mentioned above – I started off with mainly book tags and memes. I still LOVE to do those!! They really are a fun thing to do. I also like to post reviews. I post all of my reviews on IG but sometimes its nice to go into more depth on the blog or just make it more fun and add some pictures and gifs 🤷‍♀️

I also really enjoying posting book hauls haha. I just think they are fun posts that show what I like to read. I’ve always loved reading others book hauls.

Something I haven’t done yet but have been wanting to do is book recommendations. I’m hoping to start doing some posts where I talk about some books and give some recommendations. I’ve seen others do this and I always like those posts!

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE FAVORITE BLOG POSTS YOU WROTE?

Hmmmm… that is a difficult question haha. I feel like my discussion posts tend to be my favouroites because I feel they are more personal and also tend to get more of a reaction from people. Here are my top 3:

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO TO RELAX?

I enjoy reading OBVS. I also like to watch TV and movies. I find that to be relaxing. I also like going for walks with the bf around the neighbourhood. Its nice to get outside and get some fresh air.

Most of all, I like to cuddle with my kitty, Luna. She is such a sweet little baby. If you follow my IG you would see Luna quite often. She is my little model and tends to sneak into some pictures 😂

WHAT ARE THREE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS?

I have so many favourite things!! This is a hard question, it is so VAGUE!! Here we go though haha 3 things….

  • Food – pasta, perogies, cheese, chocolate, tacos……
  • Summer time – swimming, hot tubs, sun tanning, beach, boating….
  • Travel – I don’t get to do this much because well it costs too much and I have a mortgage LOL but I love to travel when I can, even just locally

WHAT ARE YOUR PROUDEST BLOGGING MOMENTS?

My first proudest moment was when someone commented on my post LOL that was my first milestone because it proved that people out there were reading my posts!

My next proudest moment would be when I reached 100 followers. I know 100 is not very much haha but that is a solid starting point!! Its also not all about the followers by any means but I have to admit, it does feel good knowing there are that many people interested. I’m close to 200 now so it makes me happy ❤

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF BLOGGING?

I’ve never had too many hobbies…. I don’t know I find hobbies to be so time consuming 😂 I love to read so I do focus a lot of my free time on that. I enjoy baking but I don’t do it as often mostly because I’m trying to be healthier so cookies and cakes aren’t really something I want to be eating all the time hahaha.

I also have a side job coaching cheerleading to a bunch of little kids haha I have been involved in cheerleading for over 10 years either as an athlete or a coach. I love it. I suppose it is a hobby in a sense but I also get paid so I think of it more as a job I enjoy 🤷‍♀️

DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY IN THREE WORDS

Oh gosh…. I hate these ones LOL.

Friendly, thoughtful, and worried 😂 I am such a happy friendly person who really cares a lot about people BUT constantly worrying about something LOL

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE PET PEEVES?

This is EASY!

  • Slow walkers – Can’t stand it, please just speed up or move the heck out of my way
  • Talking over people – I hate when you’re having a conversation with someone and people just talk over you like you aren’t even there talking and being a part of the conversation????? Like does this happen to other people or am I actually invisible?
  • Not responding to texts – I KNOW YOU HAVE YOUR PHONE WITH YOU ALL DAY SO ANSWER THE DAMN TEXT MESSAGE. That is all.

WHAT’S SOMETHING YOUR FOLLOWERS DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?

I feel like probably a lot… I try to be open about my personal life but also I feel like I’m just talking to the void most the time when blogging so it also feels a little weird to open up to the void, you know? But here are a few things about me!

  • I am from British Columbia, Canada!
  • I recently purchased my first home (apartment) with my lovely bf
  • I have a cat, Luna and also a dog, Roxy – but my dog lives with my parents
  • I graduated college with a BA in Psychology and now currently have a job in social work. I love it and it feels good to help people BUT the more I spend time blogging and whatnot, I do dream to have a job in the book world in some capacity. Maybe one day!
  • I love Starbucks. Other coffee places are fine but Starbucks is the best to me
  • If I could only eat pasts for the rest of my life, that would be okay with me

I’M TAGGING:

Becky @ Coffee Cocktails & Books

Madeline @ The Bookish Mutant

Fizah @ Book Tales By Me

Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense

Hannah @ Hannah’s Library

SYNOPSIS:

Today is the Mondayest Monday ever. Hallie Winstone has been fired – and it wasn’t even her fault!

Having lost her job and humiliated herself in front of a whole restaurant full of diners, this is absolutely, one hundred percent, the worst day of her life.

That is until she receives an email announcing that she is the lucky winner of the Once Upon a Page Bookshop!

Owning a bookshop has always been Hallie’s dream, and when she starts to find secret love letters on the first pages of every book, she knows she’s stumbled across something special.

Things get even better when she meets gorgeous, bookish Dimitri and between them, they post a few of the hidden messages online, reuniting people who thought they were lost forever.

But maybe it’s time for Hallie to find her own happy-ever-after, too?

MY REVIEW:

I feel like I just returned from the most amazing little trip to the sweetest town and bookshop after finishing this book. First off – this was ADORABLE. Hallie and Dmitri are so cute and I just could not get enough of them!

Hallie has lived a super unlucky life! Everywhere she goes bad luck seems to follow. She finds out she’s the winner of her favorite bookshop and she decides to start a new life as a bookshop owner! I LOVED this! I didn’t realize how much I also want to own a bookshop hahaha this story just makes it seem so perfect and I need that in my life.

Hallie meets a wonderful man, Dmitri, who helps her with the bookshop and of course an adorable romance ensues! I loved reading about their blossoming love and the exciting discoveries they make while working in the bookshop!

I was so impressed by this book. The writing was great, story was sweet, there were some interesting twists and turns, I enjoyed the characters a lot!! Really there were no negatives to this. If you love stories about books/bookshops and cute fluffy romances then this is for you!! Prepare to have your heart filled with love and happiness 💟

** Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review

Beauty and the Beast Book Tag

Hello there everyone!!

Beauty and the Beast has been probably my favourite Disney movie ever. Belle is the best princess in my opinion. She is just so cool! She is idependent and smart, she reads, shes badass…. the list could go on forever, she is just my favourite!!

So when I saw this book tag I was like YUP I need to do this because it just feels so right.

Also – I LOVED the Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson. That is fabulous. Emma Watson is the QUEEN. She can do no wrong in my books.

I found this tag on World Unlike Our Own‘s blog. This tag was created by Kristy @ Kristy and the Cat Read.

Tale as Old as Time: A Popular Theme, Trope, or Setting You Will Never Get Bored of Reading

I have a few!

I love reading anything to do with books. So like, set in a library or bookshop. Or something to do with books.

I also love the friends to lovers trope in romance/chick-lit books!

Belle: A Book You Bought for Its Beautiful Cover That’s Just as Beautiful on the Inside Too

The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow

This is such a beautiful cover!! I was in love the second I saw it. Turns out the book was amazing as well!!

Gaston: A Book Everyone Loves That You Don’t

So, I don’t think that EVERYONE loves this one but it is popular and I just didn’t totally love it…… Wilder Girls by Rory Power.

This book was okay for me but didn’t live up to the hype.

Lefou: A Loyal Sidekick You Can’t Help But Love More Than Their Counterpart

Jamie from the Charlotte Holmes series!!

He is such a cute character and is SO loyal its honestly just dumb at some point haha. Charlotte is a great character but she can be a little too much at times and Jamie really just was the best “side kick”

Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumiere, and Cogsworth: A Book That Helped You Through a Difficult Time or Taught You Something Valuable

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

This book made me open my eyes and really look at the relationships I have in the life. It made me reconsider what I was focusing on as important events and important people. This book was beautiful and heartbreaking. If nothing else it taught me to appreciate your true friends and to not waste peoples time if you do not share the same feelings as they do!! (Which seems obvious but sometimes you need that reminder)

I think that Mrs. Potts would approve of this 😂

Something There: A Book or Series You Weren’t Into at First
But Picked Up Towards the End

The Leveller by Julia Durango

I actually just read this one and it started off slow and I was a little unsure based on the style of writing but then I really enjoyed it!

Be Our Guest: A Fictional Character You’d Love to Have Over for Dinner

Hmmm.. this is tough because thre are SO MANY great characters that would be super fun to have for dinner. So as per usual I will just give multiple answers LOL

Based on pure attractiveness – Four from Divergent 🔥

Based on interest – Stevie from Truly Devious 🔎

Based on love for books – Odile from The Paris Library 📚

Do you love Beauty and the Beast? If not, what is your fav Disney movie?
