Currently Reading Book Tag

Hey bookish friends!!

I saw this tag on Reading With Jessica‘s blog 🙂 So fun!! Go check out her answers as well!!

How many books do you usually read at once?

I have been reading 2 books at a time! Usually 1 is an ebook that I read on my kobo and one is a physical book!

Recently though I have started reading a 3rd book on my phone when I am waiting somewhere or have random down time! So far, so good!

How do you decide when to switch between multiple reads?

I usually alternate between the books day to day. So, one day Ill focus on the ebook and the next Ill focus on the physical books. I will switch back and forth until they are done. Sometimes if I’m super into the book though Ill read that one and put the other to the side for a couple days!

Do you ever switch bookmarks partway through a book?

No hahahah I have never done this?? Do people do this??

Where do you keep the book(s) you’re currently reading?

Just all over the place 😂

On the couch, the windowsill, the computer desk, the kitchen table, the bed, in my nightstand, on the floor…. really they just get put down anywhere and left there until I pick them up again!!

What time of day do you read the most?

Mostly night time! Since I’m at work all day I don’t have time during the day to read very much. If I have the day off or on the weekend I will read during the day though!

How long do you typically read in one session?

Probably like an hour to 2 hours!

Do you read hardbacks with the dust jacket off?

Noooo, I like never ever take the dust jacket off!

What position do you mainly use to read?

I like to curl up on the couch in my comfy little corner spot with blankets and cozy pillows!

Do you take your current read with you everywhere you go?

Very rarely! Only recently have I started to read on my phone so, I guess I technically take my current read with me! But I never take the physical book with me. Too much to carry and normally I don’t have time on my outing to read!

How often do you update your Goodreads reading progress?

I try to update it everyday but sometimes I forget!

What book(s) are you currently reading?

I am currently erading 3 books:

  • Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating (on my phone)
  • The Dark Continent (on my Kobo)
  • Truly Devious (physical book)

I tag you!! Anyone can join in on this one 🙂 I’d love to see your answers!!

The Netflix Book Tag

Hey friends 🙂

I am here with another super fun book tag that I just decided to do without being tagged!! Love everyone’s responses to this one and who doesn’t watch Netflix?!?! This is just the perfect tag I think! So here I go, check out my answers and let me know if you agree with any of them in the comments 🙂

I came across this tag on Reader Gal’s blog!!

1. Recently watched– The last book you finished

I recently finished 2 books!

  • The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune
  • The Lanterns Ember by Colleen Houck

2. Top Picks– A book/ books that have been recommended to you based on books you have previously read.

Goodreads recommended that I read Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson based on some books I read. So I ordered the first 2 of the series (since the 3rd was no out yet) and have just started reading it!! So far so good!!

3. Recently added- The Last book you bought.

Hmmmm…. I don’t remember the last book I bought. However, the last book I added to my shelf was from a giveaway! So that on was The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert!

4. Popular on Netflix- Books that everyone knows about ( 2 you’ve read and 2 you have no interest in reading)

2 popular books I have read:

  • The Grace Year by Kim Liggett
  • In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

I loved both of these books!! So worth the read in my opinion 🙂 I have written reviews on both of these ones, so check them out if you want!!

2 popular books I have not read and have no interest in reading:

  • The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Dare
  • Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano

5. Comedies- A funny book.

I don’t tend to read funny books… Not sure why, but I really don’t. The funniest books I have read recently would be Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlene.

Although, I anticipate Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling will be super funny!

6. Dramas- A character who is a drama queen/ king

The Girl of Hawthorn and Glass by Adan Jerreat-Poole!! I recently read this one which is why this is sticking out to me! There is one character in this book who is able to complain about any and all situations! He is always scared and freaking out about something lol so, that would be my pick!

7. Animated- A book with cartoons on the cover

I am going to use a Netgalley book I recently was approved for! It isn’t really cartoon but I would say its animated maybe?? I’m not sure haha.

8. Watch it again- A book/ book series that you want to re-read

I never ever reread! I have literally no desire to reread books!! However, if I had to reread something I would pick the Charlotte Holmes Series by Brittany Cavallaro!! Love this series so much, it was a blast to read so I could probably reread these if needed 🙂

9. Documentaries- A non-fiction book you’d recommend to everyone.

I haven’t read it yet and its been on my shelf for MONTHS!! But I would have to say Becoming by Michelle Obama! Like I said, I haven’t read it but it has amazing reviews and lets be real, who does love Michelle Obama?!?! I am Canadian and I think she is one of the best women out there so, I feel like its a safe book to recommend to people!

10. Action and adventure- An action packed book

I am currently reading The Dark Continent by Scott Reardon. This book is full of action and violence! So far it is go-go-go and does not look like it will be slowing down!

Thanks for checking out my tag!! I tag anyone who wants to participate 🙂

Rosa Parks

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don’t live to see the morning? – Goodreads

This is such an over used book I’m sure but honestly it is SO iconic and one of the first major female leads that made a huge impact! I read these books when I was in high school and absolutely loved them. When the movies came out I knew I needed to see them and I thoroughly enjoyed them and found them to be quite empowering and moving.

Ada Lovelace

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

The last thing Jamie Watson wants is a rugby scholarship to Sherringford, a Connecticut prep school just an hour away from his estranged father. But that’s not the only complication: Sherringford is also home to Charlotte Holmes, the famous detective’s great-great-great-granddaughter, who has inherited not only Sherlock’s genius but also his volatile temperament. – Goodreads

LOVE THIS BOOK! Charlotte is such an interesting character to me. She is the descendant from the great Sherlock Holmes ad solves all sorts of mysteries. She is so smart and sneaky! If you enjoy Sherlock mysteries then this would be for you! Its a series as well!

Queen Elizabeth 1
30363412. sy475

One Blood Ruby by Melissa Marr

The Queen of Blood and Rage wants Lily to help broker peace with the human world, but Lily knows that harmony won’t come easily. After decades of waging war on the humans, who cost the queen her firstborn daughter, the fae are struggling to accept Lily, a half-human monarch. – Goodreads

I haven’t read this one but it seems like a really fun idea! You cannot go wrong with Queens and war!

Virginia Woolf

The Witch of Little Italy by Suzanne Palmieri

When young Eleanor Amore finds herself pregnant, she returns home to her estranged family in the Bronx, called by “The Sight” they share now growing strong within her. – Goodreads

I personally did not end up enjoying this book very much for several reasons. I wrote a review about this book and gave it 2/5 stars. However, the writing in this book was so beautiful and artistic. I referred to it as being like a song, so smooth and well put together. Really wonderful writing. Worth checking out even though I wasn’t a huge fan!

Joan of arc

The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna

Sixteen-year-old Deka lives in fear and anticipation of the blood ceremony that will determine whether she will become a member of her village. Already different from everyone else because of her unnatural intuition, Deka prays for red blood so she can finally feel like she belongs. – Goodreads

I am waiting for this book to come out and just cannot wait to get my hand on it!! First off, this seems like an amazing book that will have such a strong female character. Second, I need to read more fantasy books I just don’t read them enough! Lastly, I love a book with a emperor and war and immortality… so fun!

Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhonda Belleza

The only surviving heir to an ancient Kalusian dynasty, Rhee has spent her life training to destroy the people who killed her family. Now, on the eve of her coronation, the time has finally come for Rhee to claim her throne – and her revenge. – Goodreads

So my understanding is that this is about a princess who is going to war with the same people who killed her family! She sounds like one tough cookie to me!! Plus, the cover is beautiful!

Rosalind Franklin

Hotel for the Lost by Suzanne Young

When Audrey Casella arrives for an unplanned stay at the grand Hotel Ruby, she’s grateful for the detour. Just months after their mother’s death, Audrey and her brother, Daniel, are on their way to live with their grandmother, dumped on the doorstep of a DNA-matched stranger because their father is drowning in his grief. – Goodreads

This was a great book that was on my reading list for a very long time. I just kept putting it off when something new came out and really I am so disappointed I waited so long. It was lovely. Full of mystery, love, heartbreak, despair, and so many twists I didn’t see coming. This is a book I would re-read and I have NEVER re-read a book.

Marsha P Johnson

The Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley

In 1959 Virginia, the lives of two girls on opposite sides of the battle for civil rights will be changed forever. – Goodreads

I have not read this one but I have heard good things. It is a historical fiction about living in the 1950’s in Virginia and dealing with segregation and hardship due to sexuality. Two female characters are on opposite sides of the movements but start to fall for each other!

Amelia Earheart

Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

With incredible empathy, intelligence, and candor, Jodi Picoult tackles race, privilege, prejudice, justice, and compassion—and doesn’t offer easy answers. Small Great Things is a remarkable achievement from a writer at the top of her game.Goodreads

I have had this book on my TBR for a long time now. Always thinking I’ll read it next month or I’ll get to it soon. I find I am so interested in reading it and have heard such amazing things but to be honest it touches on some really difficult topics and I never feel like I’m ready for it. Maybe some time soon.

Your Choice

Anne Frank!

The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life, Anne Frank’s remarkable diary has become a world classic—a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit. – Goodreads

That young girl has always stuck out to me as such a strong and powerful person. I have read her story and wow, was it heartbreaking. I think this is something every single person should read if not for the amazing young woman she was but for the history and understanding!

So many amazing women in this world! I loved this tag. It reminded me of the amazing women that have shaped my world today and to connect it to books makes it even better 🙂

I tag you! Anyone who wants to join in, please do!! I’d love to see your picks!

The Coffee Book Tag

I’m not sure about you, but I LOVE me a good coffee! When I was in college I started my coffee addiction haha. I never ever liked it before then, but the long nights and tired mornings really made me into a coffee drinker. Now that I’m finished school I find myself drinking less coffee and usually something fancier like those yummy Starbucks lattes or something! Even as I am writing this I am finishing an iced vanilla latte from good old Starbucks! Gotta get my caffeine for the day 😂

Do you have a drink that is your go to when reading? I actually don’t eat or drink too much while I read because well, first off, I’m messy as hell…. and second, because I have to hold the book and therefore don’t have time for food or drinks! My struggle haha.

I found this book tag over at The Wordy Habitat and thought this was super fitting and would be fun! Please join in with this tag if you love coffee as much as I do!!

Thank you to myself for tagging me in this book tag 😂 This is becoming too much LOL. I saw this book tag on Narrative Paradise‘s blog.

So since it is almost part way through Feb, I am going to just focus on books that have not been released up until this point! So, skipping the Jan releases and early Feb ones even though there were lots of great ones!!

Your most anticipated release of the year:

The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow

42185079. sy475

Soooo, I already read this one thanks to Netgalley but it is not actually released yet so it totally still counts!!!

I loved the idea of this story right away! The idea of aliens taking over humanity seemed interesting (although a little freaky) and then adding in love for books and music… cannot go wrong! I can say in all honesty that this was a great book and everyone should check it out even if you are iffy on aliens!

Plus the cover is so so so pretty, it caught my eye right away!!

A book you are not anticipating:

All Adults Here by Emma Straub

I just do not find this book appealing in any way. It looks kind of sad and boring. This story doesn’t seem like it has any sort of excitement. Just focuses on a mom who is reflecting on her children and her parenting over the years… It seems too “real life” for me. I don’t want to read a book and feel like I am talking to someone about their everyday struggles and regrets haha.

I’ve seen this book pop up here and there and it has great reviews but I will not be picking this one up!

Most underhyped anticipated release:

The Night Swim by Megan Goldin

51169341. sx318 sy475

I won this book from Goodreads so long ago and honestly when I won the book I didn’t even know what it was about.

Once it arrived I read the back and immediately thought it was a really neat story idea and became excited to read it. I didn’t really hear anything about this book for quite a while but now I’m starting to see it show up on IG a little. I think it will be amazing!

A book you’ve been waiting on forever:

If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlene

51213487. sx318 sy475

I haven’t been waiting forever haha but I have been looking for more books written by Mhairi McFarlene since reading ‘Don’t You Forget About Me.’ So I was super happy to find out a new book was coming out!!

I find her writing is very good and captivating! She is also the author that got me into reading chick-lit books and now I find myself looking more and more for these types of books!!

A book you’re anticipating that’s out of your comfort zone:

The Jane Austen Society by Natalie Jenner

43557477. sy475

This books seems really cute! I love the idea of it. I’m not sure WHY but it gives me ‘Mama Mia’ vibes which makes no sense but for whatever reason it does and it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside 😂

The reason it is out of mt comfort zone is because I just don’t often read these types of books and honestly try to avoid them because I like stories that are more easy reads or action packed to keep my brain busy!

Your top 3 ‘can’t-wait’ books of the year:

The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel

I read Station Eleven and I thought it was okay. I enjoyed the idea of the story and the writing was amazing, but it just wasn’t for me. However, when I learned Emily St. John Mandel was coming out with another story that is supposed to be just as well written, I was stoked!

I love the idea for the plot AND it is based on Vancouver Island which is just in my backyard! So I must give this a read.

Havenfall by Sara Holland

So, this book caught my attention because of the cover. So pretty! I especially enjoy the sequence of moons at the top and really digging the way the title looks!

I have now requested a copy on Netgalley and honestly it’s taking forever to get accepted (or maybe denied) and its making me want this book even more!!! I love anything about interesting ancient worlds and this just seems so captivating!

Deadly Curious by Cindy Anstey

Anyone who knows me of follows me closely on my IG or blog knows I am a sucker for Sherlock. I will read pretty much anything that is a Sherlock type mystery and my favorite series to date is a re-telling of Sherlock Holmes stories (Charlotte Holmes series).

This reminds me so much of Sherlock type mystery and I love that the main character is a female trying to prove herself! I can’t wait for this one!

Top 5 most anticipated backlist books on your TBR:

  • Truly Devious series by Maureen Johnson
  • House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig
  • The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
  • Get A Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert
  • These Witches Don’t Burn by Isabel Sterling

Top 3 most anticipated reads for next year:

Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas

When children go missing, people want answers. When children go missing in the small coastal town of Astoria, people look to Wendy for answers.

It’s been five years since Wendy and her two brothers went missing the woods, but when the town’s children start to disappear, the questions surrounding her brothers’ mysterious circumstances are brought back into light. Attempting to flee her past, Wendy almost runs over an unconscious boy lying in the middle of the road, and gets pulled into the mystery haunting the town.

Peter, a boy she thought lived only in her stories, claims that if they don’t do something, the missing children will meet the same fate as her brothers. In order to find them and rescue the missing kids, Wendy must confront what’s waiting for her in the woods.

Girls at the Edge of the World by Laura Brooke Robson

An apocalyptic fantasy told in alternating POVs about the leader of a band of female elite royal aerialists whose plan for survival depends on marrying the prince—until she meets the alluring new recruit who secretly plans to kill him

The Corpse Queen by Heather Herrman

Orphaned 17-year-old Molly Green goes to live with her affluent aunt in 1850s Philadelphia, only to discover the source of her aunt’s secret wealth is from robbing graves and selling the bodies to anatomists. Molly must decide what she will do to claim a place of power in a male-dominated medical society

I am supposed to tag 5 people but just consider yourself tagged if you think this book tag seems fun!

BOOK TAG: My Life In Books Tag

Here I am again…. I’m sure you can guess it – doing a book tag I wasn’t tagged in 😂 I can’t help myself they are so fun!! I came across this one on Adventures of a Bookish Girl’s blog!

So, here we go! Come with me on a little journey to see “my life in books”…

So, I am going to try to do this entire tag with books that are on my shelf… so bear with me, they may not be the most new and exciting examples haha! I will try my best 🙂

D: Divergent by Veronica Roth

L: The Leveller by Julia Durango

F: Frankly in Love by David Yoon

25! The Case For Jamie by Brittany Cavallaro

Okay this one is hard…. I am from Canada (British Columbia) and while many books talk about Canada (usually in a joking matter haha) I’m not sure of one on my shelf that is directly set in Canada…..

The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel – this book is not on my shelf but it is on my goodreads shelf hahaha. It is set on Vancouver Island in BC which is quite close to me 🙂

Hmmm…. I mean I kind of want to pick a book that is set somewhere that doesn’t actually exist. Maybe like Harry Potter (Hogwarts) or The Hotel for the Lost (Hotel Ruby)…

This is a difficult question 😂 It would be neat to travel to many of the book destinations just to see them like The Maze Runner or into the virtual world of The Eye of Minds BUT I wouldn’t want to stay too long!

The Grace Year by Kim Liggett

The book is pink and pink is my fav color 🙂

I think the Divergent series. Those book really got me into reading. I have always read books but didn’t actively search out new books and get excited about them. The Divergent series totally changed me and for a really long time they were my favorite books!!

The Host by Stephenie Meyer.

Okay so I read Twilight and obvs loved it like the rest of the world did. So, I thought Id also enjoy The Host right?? Well I think I’ve hard this book for like 10 years and I’ve maybe read 6 pages? I just COULD NOT read it. I had zero interest in it. I bought it not even knowing what it was about and then the size of the book made me cringe 😂 safe to say – I don’t think I will ever read it!

The Institute by Stephen King

It was my first King read which I was a little nervous about because I’ve heard he writes some pretty crazy stuff! It was also much bigger than I normally read so the size was a little intimidating to me. It took me about a month to read because it was over Christmas and I was just so busy. When I finished it I was so happy with myself and also realized I love Stephen King and want to read more of his books 🙂

Consider yourself tagged if you liked this book tag 🙂

BOOK TAG: Quick Fire Tag

Welcome! This is the Quick Fire book tag, where you have to put the first answer that pops into your head when answering the questions! I discovered this tag over at  The Reading Nook and had to give it a go!

1. E-Book or physical book?

Physical book!!! I have recently started reading ebooks and while I do enjoy it, I still enjoy a physical book more!

2. Paperback or hardback?

Paperback! I enjoy the lightness and flexibility of a paperback. Hardcovers are pretty and if the whole series is all matching in hardbacks that looks nice. However, for reading – I pick paperbacks!!

3. Online or in-store book shopping?

Online! I sure enjoy browsing the books in store and just LOVE the atmosphere of the book store. But, I tend to get overwhelmed or cant find what I was looking for! Where as, online everything is easy to find and more often there are SALES 🙂

4. Trilogies or series?

I don’t really care either way. There are many trilogies I have thoroughly enjoyed! But there have been series I enjoyed too! I don’t have a preference

5. Heroes or villains?

Oooooo – this can be difficult! Sometimes I like both. More often I would say probably heroes but a well put together villain can be so good!!

6. A book you want everyone to read?

Hotel for the Lost – Suzanne Young

7. Recommend an underrated author?

Hmmmm… I’m not too sure if she is “underrated” but I would recommend – Brittany Cavallaro

8. The last book you finished?

Mimi Lee Gets a Clue by Jennifer Chow

9. Weirdest thing you’ve used as a bookmark?

I don’t really use anything unusual for book marks haha, maybe my phone? Sometimes if I need to get up quickly and have nothing around Ill throw my phone into the book for a quick second!

10. Used books – yes or no?

Yes, I am fine with used books! I enjoy a good thrift store run to find some hidden gems!

11. Top three favourite genres?

Mystery, Science Fiction, pretty much anything YA

12. Borrow or buy?

BUY! I am sorry I just cannot borrow books. I like to own and display them. I love the idea of the library but as of right now, it is just not for me!

13. Character or plot?

Both? I mean, I do love a good character and sometimes a character can make the whole book. However, a plot is needed and depending on the type of book you’re reading… the plot could be the difference between a ‘okay’ book and a GREAT book. I pick both.

14. Long or short books?

I prefer shorter books but I will still read a long book. I like to keep my books in the 300-400 page range. I find those the most doable for me!

15. Name the first three books you think of?

Wilder Girls by Rory Power

The Grace Year by Kim Liggett

Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow

16. Books that make you laugh or cry?

Laugh! I don’t like to feel sad! I would rather have a comedy than a sad romance. I appreciate a book that can make you cry but I’d rather laugh 🙂

17. Our world or fictional?

Fictional. I like books to take me on a journey! I lean towards books that are somewhere else, different worlds, or even different times in our world. I just like to be taken away from my own reality while I read

18. Audiobooks, yes or no?

I have never listened to one so I have no comment on that!

19. Do you ever judge a book by its cover?

20. Book to movie or book to tv?

Hmmm… I think book to TV!

21. A movie or tv show that you preferred to the book?

I haven’t come across one yet! Although I will say I enjoyed the Divergent movies, but still the books were better for me!

22. Series or standalones?

Both! Recently I’ve enjoyed standalones more, but in the past I read nothing but series!

Still loving the book tags 🙂 I think they are so fun and I love to read others book tags! I think its a fun way to get to know someone and what they enjoy reading!!

If you want to take part in this book tag go ahead 🙂 I am tagging everyone who wants to do it!!

BOOK TAG: The Ultimate Recommendations Book Tag

1. Recommend a book from one of your favorite genres

The Eye of Minds by James Dashner

From the same author as The Maze Runner. This book and the rest of the series are great reads! They are not new by any means but really, if you haven’t read them, give them a go! I love me some YA books, especially dystopian/sci-fi which this book is!

I was at first nervous I wouldn’t like it because its about a “gamer” who gets stuck in a virtual reality video game…. I really wasn’t sure about it. However, I loved it!!! Dashner writes good books what can I say?

2. Recommend a short book

32416539. sy475

Hotel for the Lost by Suzanne Young

I am currently reading this book and I’m loving it so far!! I don’t know if it would be considered “short” but it really isn’t long. Its the perfect sized book in my opinion! It is 304 pages. Not too long but not too short 🤷‍♀️

3. Recommend a book-to-screen adaptation

Divergent – Veronica Roth

This is not a new book at all but really my most favorite book-to-screen adaptation. I loved the book and really enjoyed the movie as well! So, really no complaints here!

4. Recommend a book out of your comfort zone

The Institute by Stephen King

This was my first King read! I was a little nervous because I tend to stay away from true horror books. I just don’t like to be terrified the whole time haha. But I was pleasantly surprised by this one! It was not a typical King book in the horror sense, but was just as twisty and turny as people say his books are!

5. Recommend a book series

The Agency series by Y.S Lee

I feel like this is such an underrated series and not very well known. It is a great detective mystery type story. It is also a historical fiction which I thought was fun when I read them! Really well written. Set in the Victorian Era England. The main character is an Asian woman who becomes a secret agent for a women’s spy academy. Super interesting read, check it out!! I’ve reviewed all of these books, so check out my reviews as well!

There are 4 books in the series:

  • A Spy in the House
  • A Body at the Tower
  • The Traitor in the Tunnel
  • Rivals in the City

6. Recommend a standalone

41957126. sy475

Verity by Colleen Hoover

I just read this book so it is fresh in my mind! Its an amazing book!! Full of twists and turns, romance, mystery, thrill…. its very good. I wrote a review on this one recently so if you want to read more, check out my review!

7. Recommend a book you don’t talk about enough

35297405. sy475

School for Psychics by K.C Archer

This was my first book review I did for this blog and mt IG. I honestly forget about this book but it was really great! It had awesome characters and good action. It kind of fell threw the cracks for me, but I need to start pushing this book again. It is a fun read where young adults attend a school to harness their “super powers” which they call psychic abilities! Its very ‘x-men’ and pretty cool!

Also, there is a 2nd book now! Haven’t read it yet but its on my TBR!

8. Recommend your “staple” book

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

One of my all time favorite books! I tell everyone to read this book and the rest of the series. It comes up in conversation all the time for me!! I have read all but the last book in the series. I can’t wait to finish it off.

9. Recommend the book/s that got you into reading

Junie B. Jones series by Barbra Parker

I LOVED all of these books and I’m pretty sure my mom kept them all! They were the cutest books and I vividly remember going to my elementary school library and picking out these books.

BOOK TAG: Disney

Hello everyone!!

I see people doing book tags everywhere and normally I read them and go “that was cute” or “I like that idea” but then I do nothing and continue on with my life just wishing someone would tag me one so I have to do it hahah. I’ve decided this is the year of do what makes you happy and you know what? I think I’m going to try a book tag (even if I wasn’t tagged in it 🤷🏻‍♀️)

I came across this tag on a wonderful blog – Alyssa @ Reading Reading Reading! Check her out, she is great!

#1. The Little Mermaid – A character that is out of their element, a “Fish out of Water”.

I am going to choose “Laurel” from the book I just read – “The Grave Keepers” by Elizabeth Byrne.

Laurel was a sheltered child! All she knew was her house and her family. She was home schooled and not even allowed to go into town due to fears that something bad might happen to her. When Laurel meets another kid her age in the forest – she doesn’t know how to interact or what is normal in a friendship!

#2. Cinderella – A character that goes through a major transformation.

Jamie from the Charlotte Holmes series! Jamie is such a sweet boy and he meets Charlotte Holmes (decedent of Sherlock Holmes) and flips his world upside down. Now he is in all sorts of trouble and is fighting crimes and solving mysteries all while trying to be a normal teenager. He really matures and grows throughout the series. One of my fav characters of all time.

Charlotte also transforms big time too but I liked Jamie more haha

#3. Snow White – A book with an eclectic cast of characters.

I feel like the Gone series by Michael Grant fits this well. While most the characters are going through the same troubling times and face the same issues, they all react differently and have different “powers” which makes each character special and useful!

#4. Sleeping Beauty – A book that put you to sleep.

The Witch of Little Italy! That book was boring and honestly I did fall asleep while reading it 🤷🏻‍♀️

#5. The Lion King – A character that had something traumatic happen to them in their childhood.

Isaak from “Boy Robot”- all in one night, his parents are killed, finds out his “parents” were not really his biological parents, finds out he is not a kid but a ROBOT, and then has to run for his life because he is being hunted down to be killed because…… he is a robot. Seems a little rough.

#6. Beauty and the Beast – A beast of a book (a big book) that you were intimidated by, but found the story to be beautiful.

The biggest book I’ve read to date is “The Institute” – I wouldn’t say the story was beautiful per say – but it was amazingly written… so I guess that could be beautiful in its own way!

#7. Aladdin – A character that get’s their wish granted, for better or for worse.

Anna and The Apocalypse. Anna’s best friend John wished that Anna wouldn’t leave after they graduated. He got that wish because SURPRISE there was a zombie apocalypse and of course no one was going anywhere because, zombies!

#8. Mulan – A character that pretends to be something or someone they are not.

Edward (and family) from Twilight…. claims he is a normal high school student – turns out, NOPE, hes a vampire!!

#9. Toy Story – A book with characters you wish would come to live.

Harry Potter!! I just want to learn some magic and see Hogwarts what can I say hahaha

#10. Disney Descendants – Your favourite villain or morally ambiguous character.

This one is difficult for me…. but to keep the Disney theme I will say my fav morally ambiguous character is general is Maleficent. Just watched the movie the other day and seriously LOVED it and her. Sorry – not technically a book character… although Maleficent is based on the Grimm Brothers version of The Sleeping Beauty!

I am tagging a few people!! Feel free to do this or not! Whatever you want 🙂 And also, if you are not tagged please participate anyways because this was so fun!
