May Wrap Up

Hello there friends!

Another month is gone. As usual I am wondering where the time has gone?? I feel like I am getting into the routine of being home now. I’m not sure if that is a positive thing or not LOL I think we are all going to be incredibly anti-social by the time this is all over.

However, this month the restrictions have eased a bit where I’m living and I was able to get some dinner at Oliver Garden so that was awesome!! I didn’t realize how much I missed throwing my money away at a restaurant 😂

Anyways – this month has been a decent reading month for me. You’ll see below that I read 6 books. This seems to be pretty normal for me. Usually 5 or 6 books a month! I so wish I was one of those people that read 10 + books every month but that is just NOT me. I cannot focus that much and obviously my reading speed is on the slower side haha. Are you a person who reads tons of books a month?? If so, please share some tips with me!!

So, lets get to it then! This is a little look into my month!

What I Read This Month:

  • Terraformer by Colleen Houck
  • The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel
  • Wilder Girls by Rory Power
  • The Little Bookshop of Love Stories by Jaimie Admans
  • The Leveller by Julia Durango
  • The Last to Know by Jo Furniss

Favourite Books This Month:

  • Terraformer – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • The Little Bookshop of Love Stories – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • The Book of Lost Names – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Favourite TV/Movies:

  • Star Wars (new one) – So fun fact about me… I have never ever watched a Star Wars movie. I had like no interest at all lol they just looked so old 🤷‍♀️ anyways, I know you are all thinking I’m horrible now LOL but my boyfriend loves Star Wars and when this new one came out on Disney+ he was like we need to watch it. So, I sat down with the expectation that this would be dumb because well a) I’ve never seen any of the movies so that’s confusing and b) I just figured it wouldn’t be my style. I WAS WRONG YOU GUYS!! This was a fantastic movie. I loved it so much!!
  • Trolls Movie – I ordered the “world premier” of this one as just something cute to watch one night and it was super adorable. I actually loved it and was dancing in my seat the whole time!!

Favourite Songs/Artists:

  • Stuck With You – Ariana Grande & Justin Bieber
  • Savage (remix) – Megan Thee Stallion ft. Beyonce

Beauty and the Beast Book Tag

Hello there everyone!!

Beauty and the Beast has been probably my favourite Disney movie ever. Belle is the best princess in my opinion. She is just so cool! She is idependent and smart, she reads, shes badass…. the list could go on forever, she is just my favourite!!

So when I saw this book tag I was like YUP I need to do this because it just feels so right.

Also – I LOVED the Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson. That is fabulous. Emma Watson is the QUEEN. She can do no wrong in my books.

I found this tag on World Unlike Our Own‘s blog. This tag was created by Kristy @ Kristy and the Cat Read.

Tale as Old as Time: A Popular Theme, Trope, or Setting You Will Never Get Bored of Reading

I have a few!

I love reading anything to do with books. So like, set in a library or bookshop. Or something to do with books.

I also love the friends to lovers trope in romance/chick-lit books!

Belle: A Book You Bought for Its Beautiful Cover That’s Just as Beautiful on the Inside Too

The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow

This is such a beautiful cover!! I was in love the second I saw it. Turns out the book was amazing as well!!

42185079. sy475

Gaston: A Book Everyone Loves That You Don’t

So, I don’t think that EVERYONE loves this one but it is popular and I just didn’t totally love it…… Wilder Girls by Rory Power.

This book was okay for me but didn’t live up to the hype.

Lefou: A Loyal Sidekick You Can’t Help But Love More Than Their Counterpart

Jamie from the Charlotte Holmes series!!

He is such a cute character and is SO loyal its honestly just dumb at some point haha. Charlotte is a great character but she can be a little too much at times and Jamie really just was the best “side kick”

Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumiere, and Cogsworth: A Book That Helped You Through a Difficult Time or Taught You Something Valuable

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

This book made me open my eyes and really look at the relationships I have in the life. It made me reconsider what I was focusing on as important events and important people. This book was beautiful and heartbreaking. If nothing else it taught me to appreciate your true friends and to not waste peoples time if you do not share the same feelings as they do!! (Which seems obvious but sometimes you need that reminder)

I think that Mrs. Potts would approve of this 😂

Something There: A Book or Series You Weren’t Into at First
But Picked Up Towards the End

The Leveller by Julia Durango

I actually just read this one and it started off slow and I was a little unsure based on the style of writing but then I really enjoyed it!

Be Our Guest: A Fictional Character You’d Love to Have Over for Dinner

Hmmm.. this is tough because thre are SO MANY great characters that would be super fun to have for dinner. So as per usual I will just give multiple answers LOL

Based on pure attractiveness – Four from Divergent 🔥

Based on interest – Stevie from Truly Devious 🔎

Based on love for books – Odile from The Paris Library 📚

Do you love Beauty and the Beast? If not, what is your fav Disney movie?

Asking Bookstagram: Favourite Romances

Hi there bookish friends!

I am back with another “asking bookstagram” post! Last month I did one and it was actually quite successful and people loved the idea so I want to keep this going as a monthly thing!

I just love to be able to mix the platforms. I love bookstagram so much and I also love writing this blog so this is the perfect way to mix the things I like! Also, I love to hear everyone’s thoughts on things!

This time I asked all my followers on Instagram……..

What is your favourite romance/ contemporary romance and why?

I figured I would start off by naming my top 3 fav books in these categories!

  • Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane
  • Josh and Hazels Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren
  • The Little Bookshop of Love Stories by Jaimie Admans

Responses from my lovely bookstagram peeps:

@jk.booklover

“I’m going to say London Belongs to Me by Jacquelyn Middleton, as I could relate to the MC so much it was a bit deja vu”

@bookstorevibe

“The Unhoneymooners because it’s super entertaining and I love the main characters. I also really loved The Bromance Book Club! Super original and hilarious!”

@sammycataspires

“My recent favorite us lie to me by Natasha Preston because it’s so genuine. It’s funny. It’s clever. And witty. But it’s also deep, sincere, and rational. It’s mysterious and suspenseful. It’s sexy and steamy. It has everything I could ever want in a romance and it was so hard to keep away from. I was buddy reading it. Couple chapters a week and I read ahead twice because I couldn’t stop. I finished it in tears. I’ve read many good and even great romances, but I feel like even though I just finished it, its definitely one ill recommend and remember for a long time! The writing is amazing and the characters were so likable.”

@barksbeachesbooks

“The Friend Zone, The Light We Lost, All We Ever Wanted. All very different. The first one because it had tons of laugh out loud moments to break up the achy heart parts”

Popular YA Dystopia Series Over The Last 10 Years

So, I saw this post on the goodreads blog the other day which was talking about The Hunger Games and how that book was a real starting point to how popular those types of books have become. They then go to list some of the MOST popular YA dystopia series since The Hunger Games. The link to the posts is here if you want to check it out!

Now – I LOVE good YA book and have always been a fan of YA Dystopia books. Of course, like many of you, I read The Hunger Games and was just amazed by it, loved it, fan girled over it. I agree that The Hunger Games was a turning point for this genre of books!!

I looked at the list the Goodreads blog listed as most popular YA Dystopia series from the last 10 years and, well….. I don’t totally agree? I mean they went off ratings from Goodreads so I suppose I may be an unpopular opinion? I am going to go through the list and name the ones I agree with first:

  • Divergent
  • The Maze Runner
  • Shatter Me
  • The Program
  • Legend

So – here we are. I totally agree with these ones. I have either read them or seen them everywhere. Also, not that this totally matters, but Divergent and The Maze Runner were made into movies….. again, not like that proves popularity or anything but I think it shows any overall interest in the stories!

The ones I did not really agree with/ haven’t heard much about (so could be wrong about):

  • Matched
  • Delirium
  • The Darkest Minds
  • Scythe
  • Under the Never Sky
  • Enclave
  • Partials
  • Blood Red Road
  • The Testing

Please don’t hate me if I just said your most favorite book is not popular 😂 I am simply saying that I don’t totally agree that they are the TOP MOST POPULAR YA Dystopia books for the last DECADE. I think they are probably popular and maybe even great books – I just don’t see it. Please enlighten me on these books if they are super good though because I love new books!!

Now, here I go throwing my opinion all over the internet. I am going to share some YA Dystopia books from the last 10 years that I think would be good fits on this list. Again, this is just me giving my opinion, but its what I think 🤷‍♀️

  • The Selection -Kiera Cass
  • Gone – Michael Grant
  • The 5th Wave – Rick Yancey
  • Red Queen – Victoria Aveyard
  • Reboot – Amy Tintera
  • The Eye of Minds – James Dashner

What do you guys think? Do you think the goodreads blog was right picking those ones? Are there others I didn’t mention that would be better fit? Chat with me in the comments 😊

ARC REVIEW: Terraformer by Colleen Houck

Deadly toxins can be hidden inside the most beautiful flowers.Goodreads

51767540. sx318

Title: Terraformer

Author: Colleen Houck

Publisher: Colleen Houck via Trident Media Group

Genre: YA, Sci-Fi

Format: eARC from Netgalley

Pub date: May 12, 2020

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

SYNOPSIS:

Deadly toxins can be hidden inside the most beautiful flowers.

That’s what Astra Meador’s famous biophysicist mother taught her.

As her mother’s apprentice, Astra has developed skills in botany, chemistry, medicine, and, most importantly, in keeping secrets.

In fact keeping Astra’s secret was the reason her family decided to leave the Earth and join a terraforming mission to colonize a distant planet called Crillain IV. But when Astra wakes early from hypersleep, she discovers that her mother never made it onboard, her father died in transit and his body has been ejected from the ship, and she suspects that she’s not the only one awake.

When the ship finally lands and she’s reunited with her brother, Nash, Astra hopes to settle into a new life, especially when she meets the charming young engineer, Jax, and is recruited by the mission commander to train alongside his handsome son to be a future leader of the small colony.

Then Astra learns that she’s not the only one with a dark secret.

As both young men contend for her affection, Astra searches for answers, trying to determine who to trust. But with theft and murder occurring in the colony along with the sudden disappearance of her beloved brother, Astra can’t listen to the whisperings of her heart, especially when someone or something else on the planet is whispering to her mind even louder.

MY REVIEW:

Colleen Houck wrote another great story!! Terraformer took me on such a great adventure full of twists and turns! I felt this story was really unique and it was told in the best way possible!

Astra, our main character, is different. She is strong and smart and honestly such a great character. However, she has a biological “flaw” that makes her different than the others and she has to hide it from everyone. Her family has made a lot of sacrifices for her and the mission they are on is in hopes to help Astra live a better life. She, and the rest of the crew, are on their way to a new planet to colonize.

Of course right from the start things start to go downhill. Astra wakes up early, crew members start mysteriously dying, and deep dark secrets are being kept. There are SO many twists so early on, I was on my toes non stop!!

One thing I really enjoyed about this book and the characters was how many moral dilemmas there were. I felt so deeply connected to Astra because of this. She had to make so many tough decisions and it was nice because the author wrote it in a way that anyone could relate to. It felt so real and I felt like I was right there with Astra trying to solve the problems!

The story focuses a lot on Astra and how she is a biologist in training. She is so knowledgable and caring. She loves the plants and takes her job so seriously. This becomes important towards the end of the book when something SHOCKING happens regarding Astra and plants! I don’t want to say I didn’t see it coming because there was quite a bit of lead up to it. But WOW, the ending had me kind of shook. I felt happy for Astra and the other characters and also felt it was the perfect ending, however, a part of me was like whaaattt is this really happening 😂

Overall, I loved this story! The characters were relatable and I enjoyed them! There was suspense and mystery. Lots of twists and turns. A few moments of real true heartbreak, but also a lot of love and happiness. This was such a well rounded book.

I would recommend this if you enjoy sci-fi fantasy style books with some YA romance and lots of plant talk 💟

** Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What Cats Do Book Tag

Hey everyone!

I’m back with another book tag! I feel like its actually been awhile since I’ve done a book tag and that makes me sad because I love them! When I saw this one I knew I had to do it because I just love cats so much. I found this tag at Smellfoy Can Read‘ s blog 😊

PURR – As cats do this when they’re happy or relaxed, what is the book that makes you happiest or relaxed?

Im not sure I have a book that makes me “happy or relaxed” in the sense that I would go back and reread a book to feel happy or relaxed. Many books have made me feel happy though. Ill list a few:

  • The Lantern’s Ember by Colleen Houck
  • A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro (the whole series really)
  • Josh and Hazels Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren
  • Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane

SLEEP – What is a book that put you to sleep or was just boring?

Again, I have a few of these hahaha. I will list the 2 most recent books that just were not interesting to me and made me feel super bored!

  • The Girl of Hawthorn and Glass by Adan Jerreat-Poole
  • The Witch of Little Italy by Suzanne Palmieri

TWITCH WHILE DREAMING – Have you ever dreamt of a book you read?

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever dreamed about a book? However, I will say that I had some scary dreams after reading The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware!

SEEMS TO PLAY NICE UNTIL THE CLAWS ARE OUT – Which book had the biggest plot twist(s)?

So many books have so many amazing plot twists! The one that sticks out to me for this one is Verity by Colleen Hoover! Crazy plot twist in this one.

CUDDLES – Which book character would you give a hug to?

The most recent character I would give a hug to would be Eva from ‘The Book of Lost Names’ because her story was so sad and I just feel like that girl deserves a big hug.

CAT BREEDS – What are your favorite books?

This is tough!! I feel like I have a book or two that I will always say are my “favs” but honestly I have new favourites all the time. This is going to be a list again!!

  • Divergent by Veronica Roth (my first fav book ever)
  • A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro (the whole series is fab!!)
  • Terraformer by Colleen Houck ( a recent fav)
  • The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles (not released yet but you must read it when it comes out next year!)
  • Josh and Hazels Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren (SO CUTE)

GETTING THE CAT – How did you find your favorite book(s)?

Most of them I came across either on Netgalley or online here on the blog or IG. Divergent I came across in the bookstore when it first came out and was plastered everywhere haha it was hard to miss.

Usually I come across books from other bloggers or just on Goodreads when I’m searching for new things to read! (or sometimes something catches my eye at the bookstore when I am browsing)

THE VET’S OFFICE – Your least favorite book:

Ive had a few books I wasnt a fan of. The ones I mentioned above that put me to sleep… yeah those are on that list! I will add a couple others that I just didnt like. I dont think I have just 1 that is my least fav… just a general list of books I wasnt a fan of.

  • Boy Robot by Simon Curtis
  • The Dark Continent by Scott Reardon
  • The Grave Keepers by Elizabeth Byrn (this one wasn’t too bad, just let me down a little)

BEING IN PLACES THEY SHOULDN’T – Least favorite cliché:

Probably in romance stories when the guy is really rude and mean but then “changes” and falls in love with the girl he was actually really horrible to 🤷‍♀️

THE GOOD OLD CARDBOARD BOX – Most underrated book series?

Let me go back to one of my fav series…… The Charlotte Holmes series by Brittany Cavallaro!

Also another one I think worth mentioning is The Agency series by Y.S. Lee!

Maybe another one to add as well…. The Asylum series by Madeline Roux (not sure if it is underrated or if I was just late to the party)

Hope you all enjoyed my cat themed book tag today! Join in if you’d like! Thanks for stopping by 😊
