Hey guys! Its been awhile since I’ve done a first impression post but I am reading a new book and I LOVE it so I need to share some thoughts.
The Little Bookshop of Love Stories by Jaimie Admans
So, I want to start off by saying – I LOVE a story about books, or bookshops. I think they are always so fun and magical to read. So when I saw this on Netgalley I had to request it and sure enough, I was lucky enough to be approved.
I’m really liking the writing style. To be honest the first chapter kind of made me go “woah” because the chapter was very long lol and also because there were some REALLY long sentences. However, it was really descriptive and I like how the author explains things.
The main character, Hallie, is cute! She has horrible luck. She gets fired from her job and just bad thing after bad thing happen. I really feel bad for her!! But then she has a bit of a miracle happen….. she wins ownership of her favorite bookshop. WHAT!! How cool is that?? This made me instantly jealous. What book lover wouldn’t want to work/own a bookshop? Also, this bookshop sounds like its super cute so that makes it even better!!
I am only 3 chapters into the book but already hooked and loving it. It seems like it will be really cute and as the title states “Bookshop of Love Stories” – I am really hoping for some romance! Fingers crossed!
ALSO – This book was just recently published on May 8!
Do you like books about books?? Would you read this one?
So today I wanted to share my thoughts on Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating. It has been sitting on the Kobo shelves for months now! I got it for super duper cheap, like 0.99 cents or something crazy! I have been wanting to read it because I’m getting more and more into chick-lit style books and everyone says this is such a good one. So, finally, I have picked this one up and I AM HAPPY I DID!
First impressions: So, this book is actually hilarious. I am about 45 pages in and I am impressed. Like, I have actually laughed out loud a few times. It is super funny. I have never experienced this before with a book!! I think Hazels character is just perfect. She is funny, crazy, has no filter, and is so genuinely herself which is just so heartwarming. It is also so perfect that her character is teacher, I think that is really fitting. I think we all knew someone in high school/ college that became a teacher and we were like oh…….. that’s not good 😂. She also has the most hilarious, weird, different relationship with Josh!
Josh is an interesting character to me. So far, I enjoy him, but he hasn’t fully won me over yet. There’s something about him I’m not connecting with but I feel like that will blow over just based on how cute and funny this book is. I’m sure he will open up and become a better character with time.
I just cannot get over the writing and how comical it is. I am so pleasantly surprised by it and I do not want to put it down (but I have to because work and stuff 🙄).
What did you think of this one? If you haven’t read it, do you think you will?
I have recently started reading The Lantern’s Ember! I have had this book on my TBR for SO LONG! Literally one of the first books I added to my “to read” list on Goodreads. It popped up and instantly I was interested because of the cover. The cover is so intriguing! It looks spooky and kind of Halloween-ish! Plus, the title is super interesting. I was already forming ideas of what the plot would be just from the title and cover and if you ask me, that is pretty awesome! I knew it was something I needed to read. Flash forward like 1 year…. I finally got my hands on the book thanks to BookOutlet! So happy!!
First impressions: I have been nothing but amazed by this book so far! First off, we are following a lovely little witch named Ember. Ember is awesome and I am really enjoying her character so far! She is so spunky and rebellious which I love. Then we have Jack, a ‘lantern.’ He is very interesting and has a dark mysterious past that I hope we get to!
So far, I’m getting some Harry Potter, Halloweentown, Men in Black vibes… Its hard to explain without giving too much away, but essentially this book is full of creatures and mysteries and I am starting to see some similarities between those movies I listed which is GREAT because those movies were the best.
The author is doing such a good job of setting the scene and going into background information about the characters. I was a little worried about that part. I just finished a book that had so much potential but fell flat due to lack of background information and setting!! So, happy to announce this one is much better and the author has amazing writing skills!
Stay tuned for a full review 🙂
Is there a book you knew you needed just based on the cover?
