TBR Tour #5 | Thrillers

TBR Tour is a weekly meme created by Deanna @ The Comfy Reader. TBR Tour will be posted every Friday with a different theme or genre 📚 😊

Happy Friday!! I’m back with another TBR Tour! As we get into spooky season (yes, I start spooky season in September, don’t @ me), I start to get really into thrillers and mysteries and just spooky, creepy reads.

I am kind of a baby though… I will admit that I don’t like reading thrillers are night before bed lol. I HAVE BAD DREAMS OKAY?

However, there is not much better than curling up in front of the fireplace with a creepy book and drinking something warm!

This weeks TBR Tour theme is…….. THRILLERS

Scared Boy Meets World GIF

Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

50833559. sx318 sy475

A book is written called “The House of Horrors” which recounts a families time living in a haunted house. 25 years later, Maggie is restoring the haunted house. She is too young to remember anything that happened when she and her parents lived there before. All she has is the book her father wrote.

Of course, things start to happen and they seem to be VERY similar to what her father wrote in his book… what could possibly go wrong?

I love these types of books and movies. This would probably be a great movie adaptation!!

The Safe Place by Anna Downes

Summer job as a housekeeper on the perfect remote estate for the perfect family. What could go wrong?

The family has dangerous secrets and if she doesn’t play along she will be in trouble.

I love these kind of “locked door” thrillers, or in this case “locked estate” thriller lol. It is really mysterious and those perfect families always have some crazy secrets that always twist and turn!

One by One by Ruth Ware

50892433. sy475

First off, I love Ruth Ware! I have many of her books on my thriller TBR but this is her most recent release!!

Company retreat goes wrong when everyone gets snowed in at a resort. An avalanche hits and everyone is now in survival mode. No one trusts each other…. how many members will make it?

Another “locked door” type story but with survival aspects. These types of scenarios make me nervous lol but I’m excited to read this.

I Killed Zoe Spanos by Kit Frick

Anna moves to a small town where Zoe Spanos has been missing since New Years. Anna looks similar to Zoe which stirs up a lot of feelings. Anna becomes invested in finding out what happened to Zoe and realizes they might be connected. Zoe’s body is found 2 months later and Anna is charged with manslaughter.

A teen host of the Missing Zoe podcast doesnt think this is right and tries to uncover the truth.

This sounds INTERESTING!!! I love when podcasts are involved in books!

Any of these books on your own thriller tbr? What ones do I need to add to mine?

TBR Tour #3 | Royals

TBR Tour is a weekly meme created by Deanna @ The Comfy Reader. TBR Tour will be posted every Friday with a different theme or genre 📚😊

Hello friends! How is everyone doing? How is August treating you so far?

I can tell you right now that August is making me feel tired haha. I don’t know what it is lately but I feel tired and overall just unmotivated. I am trying to get back on a schedule for posting on here though and I am feeling confident that having a set schedule will help!

So, I missed a few TBR Tours but FEAR NOT, I have planned some good ones for the remainder of August and I am going to give you all the themes so if you want to join in you can!! ❤

Just a reminder about what TBR Tour is – a fun meme that showcases some of the books currently on my never ending TBR that focuses on a theme or genre!

For this TBR Tour the theme is: Royals! To me this means any books about royal families, royal people, or royal life in any way!

summer hello GIF by Robert E Blackmon

American Royals by Katharine McGee

I have loved the idea of this book from the second I found out about it!! What if America had a royal family?? This is such a fun idea to me and I honestly love anything royal so I’m on board!!

General George Washington is given a crown for winning the Revolutionary War and centuries later… America is still royal! It follows Beatrice who is close to becoming Americas first Queen.

I’m sure others can relate but I have always thought being a Princess would be an amazing life haha so this idea of America having Princesses and Queens and whatnot, just makes me happy! ALSO there is a second book!!!

Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

41150487. sy475

I will start off by saying this cover is amazing and that is 100% the reason I was initially interested in this book!! Then I started hearing others say it was great and I actually read the synopsis and I was like YUP I need that!

What does this book offer you ask?

Well, in this book there is a fake friendship leading to potential love. BUT not just any fake friendship!! The First son of the American President and Prince Henry!!! They must prove that the relationship between America and England is strong and how do they do this? By showing both these guys are best buds. However, they then start to fall for each other and well if that isn’t awesome, I don’t know what is!

Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins

So, I recently read The Royal We and The Heir Affair. I LOVED THEM. This makes me think of those books in a way and honestly if I even have the smallest feeling they may be similar I will read it. Hand down, no questions asked. I haven’t seen this one around like really at all… but it sounds so up my ally. I cannot wait to read it!

Daisy is 16 and lives in Florida. Her older sister is engaged to a Prince from Scotland. Daisy ends up having to join her sister in the castle and she just does not fit in and has no desire to. Miles is appointed to make Daisy regal but there are roadblocks and Daisy is not making it easy!!

This sounds so fun and entertaining! I am so the opposite and would be down to be royal haha (I say this now but honestly who knows haha).

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

29283884. sy475

So this isn’t technically royal. BUT it is old England and the main characters name is “Monty” so I mean, I think we can still count this. Plus, Monty’s family is very high class and the book follows him through his Grand Tour of Europe where he gets himself into all sorts of trouble and adventure! ALSO – If this cover does not scream fancy important men then I don’t know what does and royalty was all about fancy important men (and still is)!

This has been on the TBR for a super long time and I know there are 2 other books in this series so I really should get on it! This is also historical fiction which I LOVE!

So that is all folks! Do you enjoy royals? Have you read any of these? I really need to read them but when will that happen? Who knows! Haha. Tell me your royal TBR books!

Here are the other topics for the remainder of August! Feel free to join in and tag me if you do!!

  • Aug 14 – Mermaids
  • Aug 21 – Historical Fiction
  • Aug 28 – Books set in schools

TBR Tour #2 | Beachy Books

TBR Tour is a weekly meme created by Deanna @ The Comfy Reader. TBR Tour will be posted every Friday with a different theme or genre 📚😊

So here we are, basically 2 weeks into July!!! Normally July would mean vacations, tropical beaches, winery trips, boating, or swimming in the pool/lake/ocean. I am LUCKY that July is not a total write off for me. Today I am actually driving to Kelowna, BC for a little 3 day vaca with my family! (I live in the lower mainland of BC so its not too far plus, in Canada we are allowed to travel within provinces and within the country)!

My plans for this wonderful little getaway include – some adult drinks, taking out the Sea-Doo, probably eating a lot of food, and OF COURSE reading some books! I am taking my Kobo loaded up with some reading material! So, catch me poolside reading a book (if the pool is open that is haha).

For this TBR Tour Friday the theme is: Beachy books! To me this means a book that has some type of tropical or beachy setting!

shocked beach day GIF

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

I feel like this is perfect for a beachy summer read! I obvs have not read it which is why its still on my tbr lol. SOMEONE MAKE ME READ IT! I have had this book on my tbr for so long and even bought it and its just sitting on my shelf. I said I was going to read it in June but here we are… I am clearly a liar 😂

For anyone who has been living under a rock… The Unhoneymooners is about Olive who attends her twins sisters wedding. Olive has the worst luck ever but her twin sister has the best luck and lives an amazing life. On the night of the wedding, Olives sister (and everyone else) gets horrible food poisoning and Olive’s sister CANT GO ON HER HONEYMOON. I would literally die you guys. Anyways – the honeymoon is already paid for so Olive has to go with her arch enemy (the best man). When they get there they end up pretending to be married…. I wonder where this could possibly go?!?!

The Summer Island Swap by Samantha Tonge

51798004. sy475

This seems like such a cute read and I just need it in my life!!!

Sarah is in need of a great beachy vacation and shes in luck when her sister books them a fab vacation! However, when they arrive its nothing like she had planned and finds out her sister may have changed the plans without telling her. Sarah just tries to get through all of this but its not all bad. She makes new friends, learns more about her sister, and there seems to be some kind of mysterious island leader that is getting Sarah’s attention!

The Vacationers by Emily Straub

So first of all, lets just admire this cover! So pretty!!

This one sounds interesting to me because I love family dramas and secrets unfolding. A family goes on a beach vacation to celebrate the parents anniversary. The vacation is supposed to be relaxing and full of sun and fun! Of course, something has to go wrong for them and drama and secrets ensue!

I find these stories entertaining and for the most part they don’t require a lot of brain power which makes them nice beach reads for me!!

Beach Read by Emily Henry

52867387. sy475

This has been ALL OVER social media!! I have wanted to get my hands on it since I first saw it appear and even requested a copy from Netgalley (which is STILL pending)!

Two authors of completly different genres are staying at neighbouring beach houses. They are both dealing with writters block. They decide to help their writers blocks that they will both leave their old genre behind and switch places. They take each other on adventures to help with the writing of the books.

I’ve heard such amazing things about this one. People say it is less rom-com and more women’s fiction but still has a lot of good romance elements! Super excited for this one!

Do you have a book that immediately comes to mind when you think of the beach? Do you enjoy summery, beachy reads?

If you enjoy TBR Tour and would like to participate let me know and Ill start posting weekly themes for the ones to come!!

Top 10 Tuesday – Authors I’ve Read The Most Books By

Hey bookish friends! I haven’t done a top 10 Tuesday in a little bit here. I just wasn’t feeling any of the topics and didn’t want to force it! Does that happen to anyone else? I really need to feel a spark with the prompt in order to do it… otherwise I feel like a fake 😂

So for this prompt I had somewhat of a difficult time! I have read a lot of books but I see now that I don’t read a lot from the same authors… which I need to change! So what I’ve done here is included some of the authors I’ve read series by and then added a few authors that I have really enjoyed and have their other books on my tbr!

Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and is currently being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

This week the topic for Top 10 Tuesday is…….. Authors I’ve Read the Most Books By!

Soooooo lets do it!!

Victoria Justice Flirting GIF

James Dashner

James Dashner is at the top of my list because I have read 2 series by him and LOVED them both! (The Maze Runner & The Mortality Doctrine) – read 6 books in total by James Dashner

Suzanne Collins

Of course I had to include Suzanne Collins on this list! I have read all 4 of The Hunger Games books so I would say she is pretty close to the top of my list! – read 4 books in total by Suzanne Collins

Brittany Cavallaro

If you have been following me for any extended period of time you would probably know that I LOVE the Charlotte Holmes series. I literally will talk about it to anyone who cares and will always tell people to read it… seriously, read it people!!!

She has also written Hello Girls which is on my tbr and I see she has a new duology in the works!!! So please go check her out shes great! – read 4 books in total by Brittany Cavallaro

Colleen Houck

I love this lady!!! She has fab writing and I just love her style of books. I have read 2 different standalone books (Terraformer & The Lanterns Ember. Both of this books were 5 star reads for me!!

She has written a couple series that I want to check out as well!! – read 2 books in total by Colleen Houck

51767540. sx318

Stephanie Meyer

I read the Twilight series which automatically gets Stephanie Meyer on this list! I know she has written other books since then but I haven’t checked those ones out. However, I may have to jump on the bandwagon and read her newest Twilight book when it comes out haha. – read 4 books in total by Stephanie Meyer

Veronica Roth

I fell in love with Veronica Roth when Divergent came out. Loved it! It changed me as a reader. I would say Divergent was the turning point for me that really made me love reading!

So, I read the Divergent series and most recently I read Chosen Ones which I understand is the first of a series. I really want to read Carve the Mark – not sure why I never got to it but its on my tbr! – read 5 books in total by Veronica Roth

40944762. sy475

Michael Grant

I read the Gone series by Michael Grant a super long time ago! It was probably the longest series I have actually read haha. He has some other books as well that Id like to check out at some point! – read 6 books in total by Michael Grant

So for the remainder of the authors – I have only read 1 book by them but I LOVED the book I read and have added their other books to my tbr 😊

Kristen Harmel

I read The Book of Lost Names a month or two ago and I loved it so much. Her writing was so amazing and the story was beautiful! I added The Room on Rue Amelie, The Winemakers Wife, The Sweetness of Forgetting, and When We Meet Again!!

Jaimie Admans

I read The Little Bookshop of Love Stories and oh my goodness, that book just made my heart happy! I immediately needed to check out her other book and added The Chateau of Happily Ever Afters, The Little Wedding Island, Its a Wonderful Night, and The Little Village Carousel by the Sea!!!

52101614. sy475

Ruth Ware

My first Ruth Ware book was The Turn of the Key. It was a total fluke that I came across her. I saw The Turn of the Key on a table at the bookstore that was a staff’s pick of the month. I didn’t know anything about the book or the author. Ended up loving it and discovering Ruth Ware has tons of awesome books!!

I’ve added The Woman in Cabin 10, The Death of Mrs. Westaway, and The Lying Game to my tbr!!

Do you tend to read a lot of books by one author? Who is your favourite author right now??

Top 10 Tuesday – 10 Books I Decided I Wasn’t Interested In Anymore

Hi everyone! I am here again with a Top 10 Tuesday. These are really a lot of fun! Im sure youve all noticed I havent been doing all of them… I am only picking the ones that I feel I can actually do properly or ones that really interest me. I dont want to do them just to do them… I feel like that is a diservice to everyone who reads my blog because my heart just wont be in the post!

SO anyways, here is today’s Top 10 Tuesday. The prompt is…… 10 Books I DNF’d (but because I never not finish a book, I decided to change it to……. 10 Books I Decided I Wasn’t Interested In Anymore)!!

Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and is currently being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

  1. The Girl of Hawthorn and Glass by Adan Jerreat-Poole

This book started off really slow for me. I gave it a chance though because I hate not finishing a book. Turns out the book didn’t get much better and I was just powering through to get it over with!!

2. The Host by Stephanie Meyer

So, I’m sure I’m not the only one who picked up The Host after reading all the Twilight books. I literally lost interest in the book before even starting it AND I never read it. It still sits on my shelf to this day.

3. The Witch of Little Italy by Suzanne Palmieri

Again, this is another one that seemed like it was going to be okay and then was slow and just dragging on. I pushed through this one. I will say, I did lose interest but I glad I finished it because while the book wasn’t great, the ending was decent.

5. The Dark Continent by Scott Reardon

I only finished this because it was a Netgalley book. The idea of the book was SO GOOD but the book itself was really rough. I just couldn’t get into it. It took me forever to read and it was way too long for what it was lol.

6. Partials by Dan Wells

I suppose this is actually a DNF read. I think long ago when I was in high school I picked this one up with the intention of obviously reading it. I read probably about 2 chapters and just wasn’t feeling it. I put it down and never picked it back up. Oops.

7. Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer

Please don’t hate me….. I almost didn’t finish the last Twilight book 🤦‍♀️ I just WAS NOT feeling it anymore. The books were so long and omg I just was done with it. I did finish it but I could not tell you what the heck happened because I was basically zoned out the entire time.

8. The Giver series by Lois Lowry

This whole series was kind of a miss for me. I really wasnt too interested in them at all. I found the stories to be boring and I was confused about how they even related to each other. I read them because a family member gifted them to me and I felt I had to read them lol.

9. Boy Robot by Simon Curtis

So, this book really wasn’t too bad. I added it to the list mostly because there was a 2nd book that came out and I literally have no interest in ever reading it. Boy Robot did not draw me in enough to go through another book haha.

10. Frankly In Love by David Yoon

I have not read this book yet. I say yet because I will eventually read this. I have had it on my shelf for a while now and I just cannot bring myself to pick it up. I don’t know what it is but I just feel the book will be boring. I always look at it when picking my next read and always skim right past it. I think I have completely lost interest in it before even giving it a chance to be honest 🤷‍♀️

That is all folks!!

Do you DNF books or are you like me and feel like you need to finish them even when they aren’t great?

Goodreads Monday – May 11, 2020

Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme that was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. The meme is pretty easy to follow, to participate simply choose a random book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it!

The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones

36524503. sy475

Seventeen-year-old Aderyn (“Ryn”) only cares about two things: her family, and her family’s graveyard. And right now, both are in dire straits. Since the death of their parents, Ryn and her siblings have been scraping together a meager existence as gravediggers in the remote village of Colbren, which sits at the foot of a harsh and deadly mountain range that was once home to the fae. The problem with being a gravedigger in Colbren, though, is that the dead don’t always stay dead.

The risen corpses are known as “bone houses,” and legend says that they’re the result of a decades-old curse. When Ellis, an apprentice mapmaker with a mysterious past, arrives in town, the bone houses attack with new ferocity. What is it that draws them near? And more importantly, how can they be stopped for good?

Together, Ellis and Ryn embark on a journey that will take them deep into the heart of the mountains, where they will have to face both the curse and the long-hidden truths about themselves.

Why I Want To Read This

I seem to be drawn to books with graveyards in them 🤷‍♀️ like anything that mentions graveyards, is set in a graveyard, has the word graveyard in the title…. I am weird I guess? Haha. I just think that books with graveyards have a really good spooky vibe to them.

Also, I just really like the idea of this story. Dead people in the graveyard rise because of some mysterious curse? Sounds like a mystery to me and I love a good spooky mystery.

The cover is also really pretty. I knew I wanted to read this one just based off the cover.. I am bad that way and usually judge a book by its cover. Sorry, not sorry. I can’t help it haha.

Anyways, this looks and sounds like a fun and exciting story so I can’t wait to read it!!

I’ve seen this book floating around here and there. Has anyone read it? What were your thoughts?

Top 10 Tuesday: Titles That Would Make Good Band Names

Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and is currently being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hey everyone!!

I am back with my 2nd Top 10 Tuesday! I think these are so fun! I decided to participate this week because the prompt was hilarious and I had so much fun looking for answers to it!

This week’s prompt was…. book titles that would make good band names!

How fun is that?!?! Check out my answers below 👇🏻

  1. Sanctum by Madeline Roux
  2. The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
  3. The Diviners by Libba Bray
  4. The Shadows by Alex North
  5. The Extraordinaries by T.J. Klune
  6. Bell Hammers by Lancelot Schaubert
  7. Saint X by Alexis Schaitkin
  8. White Stag by Kara Barbieri
  9. Kept Animals by Kate Milliken
  10. The Stone Boys by Michael Gurian

I feel like Sanctum, The Iron King, and Kept Animals sound very “metal” lol.

The Shadows, Bell Hammers, White Stag, and The Stone Boys are totally rock-n-roll!!

The Diviners and The Extraordinaries sound more like a pop band to me but could totally also be rock bands.

Saint X might not totally be a band name per say – it could be, but also strikes me as more of a rapper name 🤷‍♀️

So I don’t know why but my brain just went straight to like rock-n-roll and like metal band names??? I do not know why, maybe it was easier? Anyways, this was fun and honestly hilarious that my brain went straight for hard core names for a rock band 😂

What do you think of any answers? What book names do you think would make good band names? Chat with me in the comments!

Top 10 Tuesday – 10 Books I Got Because Of The Cover!

This is my first top 10 Tuesday! I have been seeing them all over the blog and I always love to read them! I usually come up with my own little list in my head while I read others posts.

I don’t think I will post a top 10 Tuesday every week but will try to do a couple a month just for fun 🙂

Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and is currently being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

This weeks prompt is:  Books I Bought/Borrowed Because…

I decided to do 10 books I got because of the cover! This is the typical judging the book by its cover. All of these books I pretty much decided 100% based on the cover that it would be something I want to read!

  1. The Lanterns Ember by Colleen Houck
  2. The Grave Keepers by Elizabeth Byrne
  3. The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune
  4. The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow
  5. The Lions Den by St. John Katherine
  6. The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
  7. The Widow of Pale Harbor by Hester Fox
  8. Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh
  9. The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles
  10. The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel

I am such a visual person when it comes to picking books! I really have to think the cover is nice or interesting for me to pick it up 🤷‍♀️ I usually wont pick up a book if the cover is not appealing to me! Cant help it!

Any books you’ve picked based on the cover?? Chat with me 🙂
