BOOK REVIEW: A Question of Holmes by Brittany Cavallaro

Hi friends! Hope you are all doing well 🙂

I am currently having a war with my cat, Luna, who thinks she needs to be 100% involved in the typing of this blog post. She has discovered that the computer screen is touch screen and now sits and just paws at the screen moving things around and opening all sorts of windows LOL. She is a trouble maker 😂

I finished the Charlotte Holmes series just recently! If you follow me on Instagram you know that I love this series and literally talk about it any chance I get haha. This final book was no different! Check out my review 🙂

Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson think they’re finally in the clear. They’ve left Sherringford School—and the Moriartys—behind for a pre-college summer program at Oxford University. A chance to start from scratch and explore dating for the first time, while exploring a new city with all the freedom their program provides. But when they arrive, Charlotte is immediately drawn into a new case: a series of accidents have been befalling the members of the community theater troupe in Oxford, and now, on the eve of their production of Hamlet, they’re starting all over again. What once seemed like a comedy of errors is now a race to prevent the next tragedy—before Charlotte or Jamie is the next victim.

My Review:

Bittersweet. That is one word I would use to describe this book. The book was wonderful and just as amazing as the others in this series, yet I find myself feeling this empty feeling after finishing it. I didn’t want it to end!!

I will say – I don’t think this was my favourite Charlotte Holmes book in the series. It felt too calm to me. It was missing the out of control craziness, the totally random twists, and the impulsive Charlotte Holmes! While the mystery Charlotte and Jamie find themselves involved in was entertaining, it just felt too simple for this amazing crime solving duo! (Although there is a pretty big twist that happens that ties in from the last book, however, it wasn’t all that surprising and unfortunately once the twist is revealed, nothing comes of it)

I enjoyed the character growth from Charlotte. As the title suggests, this book is very much about Charlotte and her life. She has come so far from the first book. It feels like I watched her grow up 😂 I wish I could have had a little bit more Jamie. I tend to find Jamie more relatable so I just missed his voice in this book. However, it was still amazingly written and just as gripping!

The ending left me feeling mixed. I needed more from Charlotte and Jamie. For 4 books I’ve been on the relationship roller coaster with them and while I would say the ending was happy, I just wish I had more information! I also felt a little but annoyed with Jamie’s father… he was not an active character in this one but he is mentioned and I have to say I’m disappointed with his ending 🤷🏼‍♀️

Overall, this was another fun adventure and mystery from Charlotte and Jamie! It was very enjoyable to read and I found I couldn’t put it down!

Has anyone read this series or is thinking about reading it? I would love to know your thoughts!! Leave a comment and we can chat about it!
