Book Review: Rebel – Amy Tintera

Hey there everyone 🙂

I am here today with a book review! This one is a review that has been finished for quite a while and has been kicking around collecting dust because I just simply forgot about it… ugh lol. I figured this would be the perfect time to post it because I have been SO BUSY that I haven’t been reading a lot and don’t have a super fun, new review to share which is super lame 🤦‍♀️ sorry book peeps.

I hope everyone’s week has been great and that everyone stuffs themselves full of turkey and yummy Thanksgiving treats this weekend. My FAV is pumpkin pie. It is not Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie… I will argue with anyone who says otherwise LOL.

Anyways, here is the review!!

Wren Connolly thought she’d left her human side behind when she dies five years ago and came back 178 minutes later as a Reboot. With her new abilities of strength, speed, and healing—along with a lack of emotions—Wren 178 became the perfect soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation). Then Callum 22 came along and changed everything.

Now that they’ve both escaped, they’re ready to start a new life in peace on the Reboot reservation. But Micah 163, the Reboot running the reservation, has darker plans in mind: to wipe out the humans. All of them. Micah has been building a Reboot army for years and is now ready to launch his attack on the cities. Callum wants to stick around and protect the humans. Wren wants nothing more than to leave all the fighting behind them.

With Micah on one side, HARC on the other, and Wren and Callum at odds in the middle, there’s only one option left… It’s time for Reboots to become rebels.

My Thoughts

My Initial expectations for this book were decently high. I really enjoyed the first book (“Reboot”) and wanted to have the same experience reading this one. I have to say straight out – I liked this book, but not as much as the first one. This one just seemed to be missing something… I’m not totally sure what it is. Reboot really just grabbed my attention and was able to keep it. This one was interesting, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t feel that pull.

Something I enjoyed about this book was that the story was told from both Wrens and Callum’s perspectives. I found it to be very clear who was who as they both had their own distinct voices! I always enjoy when books do this. I liked how Amy wrote this; I felt it was very well done.

I loved the action of the book. It was constantly going and I felt on my toes. They escaped HARC but now a whole new set of issues have come up. They find out that the Reboot settlement is not all it seems… one of the leaders might just be plotting something horrible and Wren and Callum will have to save the day. I loved the twists and turns during the story. I felt that while some of the story was quite predictable, there was still a good amount that was surprising!

The romance in this story is just not for me. I said this in my review for the first book and I’ll say it again… It feels forced and weird at times and it bothers me that Wren who is supposed to be so hard and heartless can just fall for this “average” guy. At points I liked it because who doesn’t like some romance?? But overall I still didn’t think it was a perfect fit for this story… or maybe just for Wren.

Overall, the book was good. It wasn’t amazing, but it kept me entertained and I felt satisfied when I finished it. The fights and action were great! The romance was kind of blah to me. However – I have read reviews where people have loved the romance… so I might just be picky haha.

My Rating

Rating: 3 out of 5.

(3.5 / 5)
